Excellent sound for the price,
By
This review is from: Sennheiser EH2200 Professional HiFi Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I bought these to replace my 8-year-old Sony MDR-V600 headphones. After listening to the Sennheiser EH2200 headphones for a few days, I'd say they are a more-than-adequate replacement, and for about half the price. The EH2200's have very good sound. Saying they have excellent bass response is an understatement. If you like rap, you'll be in for a VERY pleasant surprise--you'll hear low notes you've never heard before. However, these headphones do not sound quite as detailed as they could, perhaps because they seem to fall off slightly on the high-end. Cymbals in particular tend to get lost. Turning up the "treble" control on your stereo very slightly or boosting frequencies above 10KHz a few decibels with an equalizer will help flatten the response. That's not to say they sound bad, they just sound a bit better with more treble. Although I would classify them as slightly "dull" rather than "bright," this is perhaps to their advantage, as you will find that you can listen to them for a long time continuously without fatigue on your ears. Physically, these headphones are very comfortable, and very light, almost to the point of being excessively so. They weigh less than a baseball cap. Unfortunately they look and feel like a set of toy headphones, but don't let that fool you. Once you have them on and properly adjusted, they are so light that it's easy to forget that you are wearing them. One bad point is that the cord is not coiled. It is very long and in my case in particular I've found that as it lies on the floor it has a tendency to get caught up in the wheels of my desk chair. However, the cord is detachable so at least it would separate from the headphones instead of breaking them. The earcups swing around so that you can listen with just one ear if you want to use them for recording sessions. These headphones do not fold up for storage. When worn normally, they do a very good job of blocking out outside noises, perhaps too good of a job: I had to turn up the ringer volume on my telephone because I kept missing phone calls when I was listening to them, a problem I've never had with headphones. If they only folded for storage, they would be great for airplane trips. One word of caution: Out of the box these headphones did not sound very good, the sound was extremely muddy. However, instead of immediately returning them, I tried "breaking them in" as was recommended on many audiophile web sites. Initially I didn't place much stock in that suggestion, but it actually made a tremendous difference. (I played "white noise" on them for eight hours by tuning my FM receiver between stations, at moderate volume.) If you find they don't sound as good as you had hoped, try "breaking them in" overnight. I would recommend these headphones to almost anyone looking for good sound at a decent price.

I was very interested in trying a pair of Sennheiser headphones and this week, they had this pair for about 46% off, which is an excellent value.Look & Feel: I like the feel a little bit more than the overall look. These headphones are extremely light (the whole package - box and all - apparently only weighed in at about 2 pounds. When wearing them, they don't feel like much at all - I practically don't feel like I'm wearing anything. The look is sleek, but rather subdued - not extremely fancy at first glance. Movies: I hooked these up to my receiver and really - right out of the box - tried to give them a very tremendous workout. I grabbed "Twister" and "U-571", two movies (especially "U-571") that both offer very, very heavy low bass. I was instantly stunned by their power while playing "Twister". The low-end was simply amazing. The headphones were vibrating on my head, but they still provided very tight, very powerful bass. I took them off my head and held up a sound meter to them, which read out at about 105 decibels. They also provided a very nice "surround" feel - although headphones certainly don't provide "surround" sound (well, except for Dolby's new pair), I still felt very enveloped. I would just warn to keep tabs on the volume, because these are capable of cleanly delivering very loud sound - enough to damage hearing (don't try this at home, kids!) Music: They do kind of favor the low-end, which makes their sound a slight bit flat, but I also prefer this kind of sound because I like to listen to music for hours and a high-end favor tends to become uncomfortable. I agree that they do need to be broken in - and giving them various various movie soundtracks seemed to be a more effective way of doing this.

For ..., I think these are an excellent value- a good way for non-audiophiles to upgrade to better phones. The sound is crisp and clear, and compares very well to more expensive phones I've heard in stores. Bass response is good, so much so that I don't use the Megabass as much on my portable. Speaking of portables, these will work adequately with a portable player (max volume just a tad bit low), unlike many premium headphones. Of course, you will get best results playing these with a regular stereo. They are very comfortable and lightweight, so you don't notice them too much. The light weight also helps a little in the portability factor. One note- Headphones sound a lot better after you break them in for at least a few hours. This one is no different-

Great Sound, Great Price,

This review is from: Sennheiser EH2200 Professional HiFi Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I purchased these headphones for general home and office use; at home, they are used for listening to music and/or playing games on the computer once the girlfriend has gone to bed (small apartment, and the computer is in the bedroom). I've also used the adapter to plug them into my Onkyo TX-DS474, which is an aging but good mid-end receiver. The sound is incredible, especially on DVDs.The only downside is that these headphones do not do surround, but again, that's pretty hard to do and usually doesn't turn out that great in headphones anyway. I also use these at work for listening to music while I program, and they are extremely comfortable. I wear them upwards of 3 hours at a time, and while I never forget that I'm wearing them, they never become obtrusive or uncomfortable. One other thing to note is that these phones do a great job of blocking outside noises. I've had people come over to talk to me who had to give me a good shake because I couldn't hear them... :)

A Great Product!,

I purchased these headphones right before heading out on a trip that included travel via train and airplane, and these have served me well. First off, the sound quality is amazing for the price. Everything sounds great, and it does especially well with bass. I have not had headphones that work this well before. Secondly, they are incredibly comfortable. They weigh practically nothing and after a few minutes you forget that you are even wearing them. The padding is also very nice. They do a good job of blocking outside noise also, worked great on the train, and a lot of the engine drone on the plane was stopped as well. However, they are not noise cancelling so don't expect too much on a noisy plane. The only downsides I would note are, the cord is not coiled, so it can get tangled eaiser, but thats a minor downside. The cord is removable so you could switch to a coiled one if you really wanted to. Also, since they are non-folding, they are a little hard to carry with you, but I just put them in my backpack/carry on thing and I was fine. The minor downsides do not take away from everything that is good about the product. I definitely suggest these headphones, if you are looking for a good pair for a good price.

PC Gaming,

This review is from: Sennheiser EH2200 Professional HiFi Studio Headphones (Electronics)
If your looking for headphones for PC Gaming, I am very satisfied with mine. As far as the volume the headphones are set to, generally, I need to turn down the volume in a PC game a little bit. But if the headphones were set any higher, it would just be uncomfortable, since most of the games I play are the 1st person shooters. You can also feel the vibration on your ears from the base. It seems to be a great product, since I can't find any comparable headphones at a Bestbuy/CompUSA type of store. And I do have a $20 headphone, and you can considerably tell the difference, especially in the base. There really is no comparison. Its diffinitely worth the extra money.enjoy

I've been slowly upgrading the head phones I own usually because the headphones break. Not what one usually assumes to be the functional part, just the cheap plastic parts that hold the important bits to your head. I have three headphones now, one a new Sennheiser EH2200, the other two held together by duct tape.My first reaction to the Sennheiser EH2200 when I got it was "Oh no, more cheap plastic." I was a little underwhelmed by the not so sturdy construction. But who knows, maybe they'll hold up. They are comfortable to wear. Other head phones begin to hurt the top of my head for some reason. These haven't. But how do they sound?!? Okay. I wasn't bowled over. I think somehow I expected to be wowed, but I wasn't. They're a little heavy on the low end which seems to overwhelm the mid range at least listening to rock-n-roll. So far I've mostly listed to mp3's but generally the sound is crisp and clean. I think with these headphones I notice much more than before the differences between different recordings. This is good, I want to hear the music not my headphones interpretation of it. I am definitely happy with these headphones and consider them to be a step up from my previous $50 Optimus (probably make by Koss) headphones.

High comfort, low fidelity.,
By
This review is from: Sennheiser EH2200 Professional HiFi Studio Headphones (Electronics)
I have three main uses for headphones: listening to music through my computer at work, plugging into my digital piano for silent playing, and doing home recording. All of these mean logging hours and hours with headphones on, so I bought these based on the praises they've received for comfort. I too give them high marks for comfort; they're lightweight and have better form-fitting qualities than any headphones I've ever owned. But in comparison to my current headphones (Sony MDVR600), the sound is unbelievably hollow. The MP3's I play at work sound like their resolution has been cut in half. My digital piano, whose lush and realistic piano sound justified its cost, sounds like a cheap Casio keyboard. My stereo...well, you get the picture. I don't doubt that these headphones would prove comfortable even after hour upon hour of practicing, recording, or listening. But what's the point of being comfortable if what you hear has all the life taken out of it? These headphones would be fine for DJs who prioritize comfort over a rich, full sound. (Although, frankly, the long, uncoiled cord would probably annoy a DJ to no end.) To any musican or stereophile, I'd advise to steer clear. Headphones that don't transmit the source in its entirely are simply not worth the money.

Did you burn them in or not?!,
By Ian (Littleton, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sennheiser EH2200 Professional HiFi Studio Headphones (Electronics)
Ok, first of all don't judge the sound of these headphones right out of the box. Like premium speakers, they must be burned in, in order for them to sound good. When I bought these, I listened to them out of the box and, yes, they did sound sub-par. So, I left them connected to my receiver for one night and tried them again. As predicted, they sounded awesome! They handle everything from Paganini to DJ Dieselboy (lots and lots of bass) to Portishead (Techno/Acid Jazz). I watched Minority Report on DVD last night, and I was shocked at how clear and crisp everything was. These headphones are so light you literally forget that you're wearing them. My ears are slightly larger than normal, but these haven't given me any problems. I think these are the most comfortable cans I've ever owned! And for [the price], how can you go wrong?

The Most Comfortable Headphones I've Ever Owned,
By
This review is from: Sennheiser EH2200 Professional HiFi Studio Headphones (Electronics)
Yes, these headphones SOUND good. It's Sennheiser! Of course it will sound good. What's important about these things, however, is that they are incredibly light and incredibly comfortable. I never realized how comfortable they were until I started using a different headphone and found my ears worn red after only an hour or two of use. This is especially a problem since I wear glasses, and the combination of glasses around my ears and headphones on my ears can be VERY annoying. I have no problem wearing these headphones for several hours at a time, even with my glasses on. If you use headphones a lot, you want headphones that sound good and feel good. That's the 2200!
