I may have gone with the HD-555s if I was basing my decision soley on sound quality, I have noticed a more natural (not so closed-in) sound out of open-ear headphones. Problem is the person next to you can hear them when you listen to them. To the point where it's annoying. Since I share my home office with my girlfriend and I work in close proximity to my co-workers, open-ear was not an option for me.So... I needed closed-ear headphones and I wanted a pair of Sennheisers. There are basically two choices in this range using those criteria, these and the HD-280s. First the HD-280s... I have read reviews of the HD-280s. Everyone loves the sound, but almost everyone mentions the poor construction (pieces cracking off, etc). If I am going to spend over $100 on a pair of headphones I really didn't want even a chance of having little pieces break off. Also, a good amount of people mentioned discomfort with the HD-280s, specifically that they were too tight. I have a pretty big head, so that really put me off as well. Keep in mind though this is just what others have said in their reviews. I have never used the HD-280s, but I went with the masses and didn't buy them for the reasons stated above. As for the HD-265s... I have had them for about 2 weeks now and I love them. I definitely made the right choice. They are very big, but remarkably light and comfortable for their size. The construction is solid, very simple and well thought out. No little pieces all over that can break off. There is a nice cushion for the top of your head the the around ear cushions are very comfortable. I have worn these for many hours at a time and experienced no discomfort whatsoever. As for the sound... stunning. You hear things you didn't even know were in the songs. The bass is deep and sounds like it's coming out of a large subwoofer, it's crazy. The highs are really crisp and very clear over the bass. When you listen to music with these headphones, you know that's what the song was meant to sound like. It's great. I listen to all types of electronic, hip-hop, rock, pop etc and they all sound great with these headphones. I've also used them to play computer video games and they are great for that as well. Really puts you in the game. Also, they close out a lot of ambient room noise, as others have stated -- better than some noise-cancelling headphones. I definitely recommend the Sennheiser HD-265s if you are looking for a nice pair of closed-ear headphones.

I do some part time studio recording and I know these headphones are absolutely incredible. They1. block out more sound than most noise cancelling headphones 2. have incredible bass response 3. have inredible clarity 4. look intense 5. are intense 6. sound intense unfortunately, they are a little heavy, so they aren't for the weak necked. I would reccomend this to any man who operates his own studio and needs some solid phones to monitor his work.

Sennheiser HD-265,
This review is from: Sennheiser HD 265 Professional Full-Size Studio Headphones with Dynamic Hi-Fi Design (Electronics)
I have owned these headphones for over 5 years and they NEVER have given me a problem. They're VERY comfortable, lightweight and don't squeeze my head or dig into my ears, even with wearing eyeglasses. I can wear them for a long period of time. The bass really kicks but not too much to drown out the amazing trebles and mid-ranges I hear. I wear these to bed to listen to my relaxation and meditation music and I don't hear any outside noises to disturb me. These really help me get to sleep and they're also outstanding if you want to listen to some loud rock music while you're at your computer. BTW if you plug them in to your home-entertainment system you can get excellent results listening to your dvd's or television show without missing a word. These 265's are more than well worth the money that they're being sold for!

So, I suspected that these headphones would be good...but oh my god are they good. I have them plugged into my computer at work and I am rocking out!! Bass response is amazing. Treble is amazing. The best part about these headphones is that my office mates cannot hear them at all. They have some good passive noise cancelation as well.

I've owned these headphones for a long time. My wife bought them for me for Christmas one year. Who knew she could pick the perfect ones for me! They're the best headphones I own. They have a great low end that's perfect for using them on your keyboards when you want to hear that low Grand Piano note, or low string note. I also use them on my VS2480 recording studio. Surprisingly they are amazing when used for guitar! No grit! They're perfect. I've search eBay forever and bought many many speakers trying to get my guitar to sound as good as they do thru these headphones. They are especially good used with guitar modelers. I highly recommend them.Especially unique to these headphones is the replaceable (detachable) cable. Yeap, I've had so many accidents yanking them off my head (too many beers probably) that I've needed to replace the cable. Keep a spare on hand.

Powerful audiophile Sound, Distorted and muddy at times.,

These phones have nice sound and have comfortable cushions. The bass is powerful, you hear different instruments in each ear, clean highs and mids, good quality Sennheiser sound. Very pretty, especially on songs without much bass. Acoustic music and classical music sounds really nice on these. But with some songs the low ends are fuzzy and muddy. Try listening to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," the lower end of the keyboard and the bass instrument sounds somewhat distorted, you can hear the vibration, even on the iPod's flat eq setting. I also tried Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," Same problem. Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" sounded muddier and fuzzier than usual. My guess is because these phones have extra heavy bass levels, more so than most headphones I've heard. Then again, the Koss Portapros have the full bass sound without any distortion. But the drums are powerful, the acoustic guitars shimmer, the voices are fairly clear. These are definitely high quality phones. Not the best I've heard in its price range, but worth getting second hand or at a bargain price.

If you're wondering, there's little difference between aural and circumventable headphones. These sound great - and will handle a lot of power. I recommend.

I cannot give this product a good review. I unpacked this product and put them to my ears and they broke in half. I had a piece of headphone in each hand. I called the seller and they said send them bak to the manufacturer. Nothing like like making the customer responsible for a problem. I sent them back to Sennheiser and asked if I could upgrade to a better headphone such as the remanufactured 600's and that I would be happy to pay. I have to give Sennheiser credit. They did call and offer to uprgrade for $250 plus the HD 265. I explained that I could get a pair of 600's on Amazon for less than that and keep the 265's. That did not seem to matter to them. I guess they could not follow the logic of pay more and get less.My suggestion is stay away from Sennheiser alltogether and take a look at Ultrasone, GRADO, or Pioneer. Unlike the Ultrasone's these headphones have an in your head sound as opposed to the much more natural sounding and accurate Ultrasone's. These headphones are also very tight and uncomfortable and connot be worn for long. Although I own a pair of Sennheiser noise cancelling headphones which I like, I prefer to give business to a company with more character. I also think there are headphones with a much superior build quality and superior sound such as the Ultrasone and GRADO headphones. Save your money and don't buy a name, buy a headphone. |
