Product Description

The HD 428 is closed back, circumaural design featuring powerful bass response provided by high-output neodymium magnets. These headphones use an innovative and ergonomic design, providing durability and a comfortable fit thanks to the soft padded headband and ear cushions. Their closed back design effectively isolates against ambient noise and the short, single-sided cable helps reduce tangling. The 32-Ohm impedance is an ideal match for personal audio devices (iPod and mp3 players), cell phones (iPhone, Droid, smart phones) and tablets (iPad, Kindle, etc.).

Customer Reviews

The sound quality is phenomenal and the bass is great.
Charlotte Cohn
The Cord is thin and light, so I worry a bit that it would break easily if it gets caught on something 2.
Is5410
They are lightweight, have excellent crisp and deep bass and clear highs.

Not only are the headphones awesome--comfortable and snugly fitting, solid but not overbearing bass, wonderful at blocking outside noise--but Sennheiser's customer service is among the best I've encountered from an electronics company. After a couple weeks of happily owning my new Sennheiser 428, I carelessly snapped the cable that plugs into the headphone port. I sent it back to Sennheiser along with an apologetic note, asking if I could get a replacement or at least a repair.

I got my fixed 'phones back within a week. And I didn't have to pay a cent for it, even for shipping! No questions asked, no "did this violate the warranty or not" haranguing, no being put on hold while trying to speak with a customer service representative.

Love this company, love this product

I purchased these for use when plugged into my desktop speakers for gaming and music, and for my android phone for music.

Over-all PROS: Crisp, tight highs. Well-toned mids. HUGE soundstage. Pretty comfortable on my fat, overly-sensitive head. I can't stress how terrific the clarity is with these. Short, single cord. Perfect for having a music player in your pocket.

Over-all CONS: Short, extremely thin cord. I'm weary of accidentally pulling the cord apart. Even though they only have 32 ohms, these need bit more power to drive them than I'm used to and have on-hand when using my android phone.

Powered by amplification device: Superb sounding. Completely immersive. Can have too much low-end and punch. I have to dial back the low end for some bands, and they haven't been through the proper burn-in period yet. There is a fullness that I haven't heard in cheapish headphones in a long time.

Powered by (my) android smartphone: These cans are marketed for iThings, mp3 players and the like. When i first opened the package and plugged them into my phone, I was slightly disappointed. All the positive aspects mentioned in the "Over-all PROS" section apply, but there was a lack of low-end that left me craving more. *Note* My device may just be under-powered. I haven't tried them on any other handheld device yet.

After spending a few hours, switching between headphones, songs, and devices, the conclusion is that these are spectacular headphones for the price. Even being slightly under-powered on my phone, they make up for it in clarity and over-all sound. I hear new things in songs, comparable to listening to your favorite song for the first time after getting high.

I picked these up for $37, and would have been very satisfied if I had payed $70.

I picked up a few pairs of these 428S headphones for a deployment for myself and to share with my shop. Turns out these are great for all my personal media needs. I was happy with the sound from the factory, but if you want more thundering bass, you can easily pop these open and open up the bass ports to tune these to sound like $150 cans... I did this after searching head-fi dot org for a complete instruction on this mod. The sound was quite enhanced!

I bought these headphones for my wife,as she has a hearing problem and they're in use every day. She also has hearing aids, but she hears better with the headphones. She is very satisfied with them. And what can be better for a married man than to have a contented wife.

I expected the sound to be a bit more brighter than it is. I wish the cord was longer, at least 6 foot. I love that the sound stays in with its extra cushiony ear cups.

This Sennheiser headphone is ideal for use with portable MP3 players/FM Radios. The low impedance (32 ohms) gives good volume with low battery draw. The short lightweight cord also is very compatible with portable use. My only concern is the durabilty of the cord. Time will tell!

Pros:

Sennheiser always delivers good high and mid sounds.

Cons:

Bass is bit weak but if you don't listen to hip hop, it should be okay.

I don't have big head, but after 1 hour of use, my head and ear get tired and need to take it off.

The ear cup is made of paper-ish cover not cloth unlike Sennheiser HD550 I own.

Conclusion:

I would give 5 stars only if it were more comfortable.

Nice sound quality wish the audio wire was higher grade. It seems that thin audio wire will break over time since i travel
