Just unboxed this and tested it out. I gotta say I don't understand some of these reviews from people saying how much they suck and how cheap they are and how poor the range is. The sound is pretty much the best headphone sound I've heard, short of the sound you can get out of $400-500 MM550s or Dr. Dre Beats or other noise cancelling+SRS headphones. But the range is fantastic for my needs. I can go everywhere in my 3000 sq/ft house with no droppage or static. I can go to the end of my 50 ft. driveway and then it starts breaking up. So, can I get 300M or whatever they claim here? No, but that's line of site I'm sure. I can get everywhere in my 3 story home and all the way around the outside of the house and the garage.

I also was able to pair up a second pair of RS 180s very easily. I don't get the guy who claimed the manual stunk. It said how to do it...I did it...it worked. Essentially, hold the ON button down on all the headsets for 7+ seconds, then hold the ON button on the base down for 7 seconds...then within 30 seconds, the blinking levels off and they're paired. I don't understand what was so difficult. Perhaps the instructions I got on the CD/DVD it came with were more updated?

There was also a review somewhere about how cheap they felt and about the sound leakage. I guess that's a matter of personal preference because I found them just fine for me. I'm thinking it was a design decision such that if they'd made them solid-feeling aluminum or something, they'd be uncomfortably heavy. As it stands, they're super light and the light, puffy velvety ear cups are very smooth and comfy. They do leak a tiny bit of the sound, but it's not quite as bad as someone let on.

These are great headphones. I'm very happy with them with two exceptions. As many people have noted, the volume and power buttons are small and you have to take the head phones off to adjust them. My other issue is that the headphone say in the description that they include a charger, but they don't. (I call Sennheiser about this, and they said they were going to update the description, so perhaps you won't notice this.) But know that if you have multiple headphones sharing a single base, you won't be able to charge them at the same time. I bought a separate set of rechargeable AAA batteries to ensure i would never be stuck without a charged headset.

Yep! Went ahead and purchased a second headset (HDR-180) for my RS-180.
It is great! Just turn it on and it synced to the RS-180 transmitter, very easy to do.

I own a set of Sennheiser RS 170 with transmitter headphones and I watch the sennheiser video that said you could add up to 4 headphones So I decide to get a extra set of headphones and upgrade to the HDR 180 headphones . So I got them in a couple days put the battery's and turn them on nothing happen no sound. So I email Senneiser and they told me that only the HDR 170 work only on the 170 transmitter and the HDR 180's on the 180 transmitter . So I hope this will help anybody who may be thinking about adding a extra set of headphones who already have either the 170 or the 180 headsets . PS I highly recommend sennheiser headphones I really enjoy mine and some people have complain about the buttons. I have found after a while of using them you will learn where the buttons are and can turn the volume up and down with no problem at all.

Syncs perfectly with my RS180. Very easy to set up. Now we have 2 headphones. Excellent for watching movies in the evening as we have a young child who wakes if the TV's on a little too loud. And the sound is much better than the built-in speakers of our Sony HD TV (bought November 2010).

Highly recommended. Also definitely sounds better than the RS170 (which we trialled and returned in exchange for the RS180).

Update September 2011
---------------------

Having used the item for 10 months, it is still working seamlessly with 2 headphones to 1 base unit. Sounds is still amazing. Battery life is fantastic - can easily watch several movies on a single charge.

Delighted with the product.

We bought this as an accessory along with the Sennheiser RS 180 transmitter/headphone set.
Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphone System

PROS: Outstanding sound quality, 1800 sq ft home, two stories, can get sound anywhere in the place including the remote garage. We got this model specifically because I am nearly deaf in one ear so can adjust volume independently R/L. Also, we can both preset our volumes and use the volume control on the component receiver as needed with no further need to adjust headphone volumes. Over some 20 years, we have had several other wired and wireless headphones. Both sound and wearer comfort with these is noticeably better than any we've had before. A freaking expensive product, but since the sound and comfort is so much better than what we've had before, we can live with the expense.

CONS: As another reviewer said, connecting headsets with the transmitter is a pain in the neck ... and other places as well. We can always get both to connect, but IF one is already in use for more than a few minutes (my wife watches "her" shows, then I join later to watch "our" shows), the second headset refuses to connect UNLESS we turn everything off, then turn all back on while standing within three feet of the transmitter. Whoever designed the connection system on this product deserves to be fired without bonuses. But, despite the frustration, we have always been able to connect ... eventually.

Summary: The system, when connected, is a solid five. The connection procedure gets a one only because we can connect.

UPDATE 12 April 3013.
