The HD 219 features powerful premium quality neodymium magnets for superb stereo sound and punchy bass. I recently bought the PX 360's and reviewed them. I ended up not keeping them because I had issues with their driving difficulties (I'm very picky with this, for most of you it's probably not an issue, I just don't like carrying an amp). On a lot of my quieter recordings I needed to use an amp. However, I gave them a good review, and if you don't mind using an amp, I still highly recommend them.

Anyway, with the refund, I picked up these little bad boys in the same Best Buy, and I had about $100 left to spare as they are a third of the price of the PX 360's.

I am Incredibly impressed with them. Insanely enough, I actually think they manage to sound better than the PX 360's. I think they reveal more detail than the PX 360's, crazily enough, but I have a feeling some people might say that the HD 219's are just more sibilant.

Let it be known that I actually own the older version of these, the HD 218's. I loved the original 218's sound and design. This design is the exact same, an on ear light weight portable phone reminiscent of the Bose on ear headphones.

The main differences between these and the originals: first, the bass seems to have been reigned in. The original ones had emphasized bass, and it wasn't tight or controlled bass. The bass was very deep and rich, but it gave the overall sound a more distant and dark sound. The HD 219's have fixed this. They still market the headphones as a bass lover's phone, but to me, it's very balanced. The bass is still dark and very deep sounding, but it's less bloated and doesn't bleed into the other layers of sound. It's more akin to the PX 200 II's bass quality, but about twice as present.

The other major difference is that these updated 219's are much easier to drive.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I've always been a big Sennheiser fan, starting with my first ones back in the 80's. Sadly for this German brand, headphones are not what they used to be, and people settle for things like Monster Beats and the lousy white headphones that come with most Apple devices. These HD219's cover the basics quite well - they re comfortable, feel well made, but the sound is lacking. They mention the increased bass - and it is clear they put some effort into getting some oomph out of these. Sadly, oomph isn't the best for your music. At the end of the day, the price is the only really good thing going for these. You can tell they have a relatively small driver, and most music sounds too dull. Not a bad investment for $40, but they definitely don't do the brand any good.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
These are a sturdy looking pair of lightweight headphones. I owned these for several weeks before giving this review to allow some break-in and the bass definitely improved over time. If the bass continues to improve I will revive this review. Their strong points are the low price, high comfort and good fidelity. Their weak points are their slightly plastiky feel, poor bass and thin cable. These would be perfect for listening to audiobooks, lectures and pop but not the greatest for bassy music. They are extremely comfortable because they don't put pressure on your ears and the the earphones swivel on their axis to adjust to the angle of your ears. These do not fold up. Here's a relative comparison to some other Senns I own:

[UPDATE 15 MONTHS LATER] I've carried these around for over a year. Tossed them in my messenger bag. Had my kids use and abuse them. So far they are holding up amazingly well. After a few months they seemed to break in and sound a lot better. They have picked up quite a few scratches but they still work great.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I've been a big fan of Sennheiser for many years. I own one of their high-end headphones and like them so much I've never considered replacing them for home use. Even replaced the pads and cord (which Sennheiser thankfully keeps in stock). I've been working in broadcasting for nearly 30 years and have used many different models of Sennheiser products. These HD 219's are not quality studio headphones but then they are not supposed to be. However they are good for on-the-go MP3 listening. The tone is nice, highs and mids are where they should be but some of you may find the bass to be a bit low (at my age I'm not interested in pounding bass). Frequency response is 19-21000Hz which is good for most of us. The jack is the standard 3.5mm and the cord is 1.4m thickness and 58 inches long. The on-the-ear pads are comfortable and covered with a thin vinyl with a mesh center for better sound. The entire ear piece swivels to fit any shaped head. The cord enters in the left ear piece only. The headband retracts on both sides and has a padded inside center which is soft on the cranium.

Can you get better Sennheiser headphones? Sennheiser HD800 Over-Ear Circum-Aural Dynamic Premiere Headphone You bet you can but for the price and on-the-go music listening I think you'll enjoy these headphones. These were received through Amazon Vine and I am not required to give a good review. All of us hear sound differently and require unique types of headphones for different music styles and location applications. I have given my honest opinion so I hope it helps.
