5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for MX500
I was running with me MX500's on. The wire got caught on a hook shaped door handle and I broke the earphones, so I needed a replacement.

Detailed description:
The MX660s have a single, round tube insulation instead of the kind that clearly separates left and right channels. The wire doesn't twist as much because of this. The cord is Y shaped.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK but not great
I have always been a Sennheiser fan, and own 5 sets of headphones. Unfortunately, these are so-so. Not a great sound and not that comfortable on the ears.

I hate to admit it, but the orignal Apple IPOD earbuds sound better. I need to also say that I'm an audiophile, and in the upper end of headphones, Sennheiser is terrific. But for low-end earbuds,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for MX500, June 26, 2008

I was running with me MX500's on. The wire got caught on a hook shaped door handle and I broke the earphones, so I needed a replacement.

Detailed description:
The MX660s have a single, round tube insulation instead of the kind that clearly separates left and right channels. The wire doesn't twist as much because of this. The cord is Y shaped.
The foam pads that came with the MX660s had a very small opening and fit very snugly onto the earphones. They're great once you get them on. I remember the ones on the MX500s were loose and I eventually lost them (got replacements).
The L/J shaped plug is noticeable thicker than the kind on the MXx00 series. So is the volume control. Overall the construction on the MX660's is not thicker, but sturdier.
The wire is long enough that I can keep my MP3 player in my pocket and still move my head around freely with them on.
It comes with a little pouch I'll never use, and a plastic windy thing with places for the earphones that I might use one day.

Sound:
SO MUCH BASS. Significantly more than the MXx00 headphones! The rest of the sound is balanced. If there was an equalizer equivalent, I'd say it would look like this:

+12 ....
________....
0____________.......

Super heavy lows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds great!, July 22, 2008

Very good sound quality, works great. The 'volume control' only controls a small range of volume though. It's not meant to replace the volume control on your device. But otherwise very worthwhile.

Great set of phones with a nice rich, deep bass sound. Why are you still wear those white buds?

The earbuds have excellent acoustic clarity for most frequencies. People looking for a booming bass sound will be disappointed. My friends recently gave me a set of Bose earphones which are much more expensive, but the Sennheiser has far better sound quality and the i-pod volume doesn't have to be all the way up. The volume control on the earbuds is handy when others are talking and you don't have to fish for the i-pod volume. The only drawback to this product is the earports can be a difficult fit, and may not be good for those who are exercising. It would be nice if the company made the softer and different sizes of earbuds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Work great, even in freezing temperatures..., December 21, 2009

This review is from: Sennheiser MX 660-S High Performance Dynamic Basswind Earbuds with Volume Control (Silver) (Electronics)
These were a great replacement for my Sennheiser MX 500s, which lasted several years. I'm a bit rough on my headphones as I use them for hours on end during my work day, in bed at night, under my helmet when biking, doing house and yard work, and while waiting for the bus in the cold Wisconsin winter. I purchased these because I like the ear bud style that provides as much noise cancellation as you want and no cumbersome headset, and, because my last pair lasted for years and even with a tear in the cord are now my laptop-only ear buds.

For the price, these cannot be beat. The sound quality is fantastic, although my ears do not easily discern every last element of the music I listen to on my iPod. The bass and treble always seem even, but what I really like is the ability to control the volume from the cord. This was a requirement for me as this capability serves two purposes for me. First, by being able to adjust the volume on the cord I don't have to use the iPod and therefore save battery usage on the iPod. Rotating the iPod's navigation wheel for volume always causes the back light to come on and I can save on that extra power usage. Secondly, I often keep the iPod in a coat or pants pocket and can't keep pulling it out simply to adjust the volume. For example, I find that I can set the volume as low as possible on my iPod when using it to fall asleep to music and then the volume control on the cord can vary it enough that if I need it louder, I can make it so.

The absolute best thing about these over the earlier (or cheaper?) models is that the cord itself appears to be rubber. My old Sennheiser 500s seemed to be made of plastic, and when using them in below-freezing temperature, the cord itself would become so frozen stiff that it would be as if the ear buds were attached to a stick and would then pop straight of my ears. It's December now in Wisconsin and I have yet to have that problem with this model.

Good Quality. The inline volume control is great. Sennheiser makes great headphones and these are a great value. I use them on my iPod as they are infinitely better than the apple headphones.

2.0 out of 5 stars MX 660: precise sound but no bass, October 13, 2008

I wanted to get Sennheiser earbuds, and MX660 (with MX760) have the best specs of the current classic line. However, I find the sound of MX660 to be tiring. I would call the sound precise because of very clear highs, but the mid-range sounds too prominent and the bass is very difficult to get without pressing earbuds hard. Altogether they do not make for nice listening experience. If you like a solid bass (but not boomy) such as that delivered by PX100 portable headphones, I recommend Sennheiser MX55 instead of MX660. In either case, the use of foams is necessary to get the most of the bass.
