Great Balance of Performance and Style

Have had the Momentum over the ears in my possession for the past couple of days. They’re pretty pricey for an over the ear model and have some quirks from a performance standpoint, but I’m generally a fan of them. Those expecting an acoustically accurate “reference” sound quality won’t find that kind of presentation from these headphones, but that doesn’t appear to be the point of momentums. These are designed to be more of a casual headphone that provides a very nice balance of style and sound quality that, though a bit colored, is worthy of the sennheiser name.

In terms of sound quality, the momentum on ears have a relatively laid-back sound quality, with some emphasis on the lower frequencies (bass), and lower treble frequencies. Bass is plentiful with these headphones, perhaps a little overwhelming at times depending on the type of music you’re listening too, but relatively clean, tight, and controlled. This is in stark contrast to the sloppy boomy bass you find in a typical Beats headphones. I tend to prefer some emphasis on the lower frequencies, provided there isn’t a distracting amount of distortion, and the momentums deliver in that regard. That said, for those who prefer a flatter, more ‘reference’ sound quality, I can see how the emphasized lower frequencies can be a detriment.

Upper frequencies (treble) are somewhat emphasized as well, though I wouldn’t consider these to have a “bright” timbre to them, as the treble seems to taper down at the extreme the upper frequencies. As such, they will highlight details in the upper frequencies, but lack the sparkle in the top-end that you might find in a headphone with a ‘livelier’ presentation.Read more ›

If Your Hat Size Is 7.5 or Up...

These headphones are quality in every sense of the word. They are aesthetically gorgeous and sonically some of the best headphones I've ever experienced. From the metal headband frame to the soft ear pads and the sleek brushed metal look of the headphone cups, these are arguably the coolest looking and the best sounding headphones you can buy. I have a large head and the headband was too small. After about an hour or two of listening, I was in pain from the tightness of the headband and the pressure of the ear cups. I thought having small ears would be to my advantage with a pair of on-ear headphones; I was partially right. They fit my ears perfectly - but the headband for these was a shade too small for the headphones to be comfortable for daily wear. Anyone who has a bigger than average size head, caveat emptor. For the price, I should be able to listen to these for more than a few hours without pain. Sadly, they didn't work out for me and I was very sad to return them.

TL;dr: If you have an average size head, these are your new favorite headphones. Those of you with a hat size 7.5 or up, pick something else.

These are probably my favorite pair of portable headphones ever. I'll summarize first for people.

Pros
-doesn't hurt the crown of my head
-Metal is flexible which can reduce ear pressure if you so wish
-Ear cups breathe and are comfortable
-Hand stitched and amazing quality
-2 year warranty in US when all others only have 1 year.
-Removable and replaceable cables included

Cons
-Doesn't provide noise isolation

I first got these headphones as a gift. Let me say right off the bat that I would gladly pay full price for them. I'm not an audiophile and for the longest time I believed in the notion that I should never pay more than $50 for headphones. With this in mind I was very skeptical when first trying these out. "There won't be any difference in sound compared to my current headphones" I said. I assumed the price was all just aesthetics. I was pleasantly wrong.

Putting on these headphones at first you need to slide the ear cup itself instead of the band like other headphones. Once you find the right position and angle you're set for takeoff. The sound is AWESOME. I went through and re-listened to all the top songs in my collection. Songs I thought I knew by heart of every beat were richer and more expansive in the amount I could hear. I tossed them at my girlfriend to try out. She too was taken back by how much you can hear with these. Each instrument is clear, vocals aren't underwhelming but not over powering. Bass is clearly there but doesn't drown out the mids or the highs. I listen to a lot of electronic music as well as some rock so I tossed them at my Dad for him to try out some Jazz.Read more ›

Wanted a pair of headphones that looks great without sounding like overpriced crappy garbage(beats). These sounds great; well-controlled bass, very detailed mids and a smooth crystal clear treble. They also feel very durable and comfortable(for an on-ear headphone). the only complaint would be its isolation.

Yes! They are a bargain for the price. Highly, Highly recommended.
