I have used the OMX 70 Sports for 4 years. Decided to try the 50% cheaper Nike SHJ036 Flexible Earhook Headphones and the Nike SHJ035 Flexible Earhook Headphones. Bottom line, after 2 weeks of trial, I'm back to the new OMX80 and I've found that you get what you pay for.

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible for running
While the sound quality is fantastic, these headphones are awful for running. The weight of the headphone causes it to move slightly while you run, and every hundred feet or so required me to readjust them or they'd fall off my ear. I tried everything I could think of with the clips, and nothing worked. What a waste of $60.

I gave it 2 stars, because if...

* The earhooks on the OMX80 are an upgrade over its prior model and substantially closer/tighter and more comfortable fit than the Nike product. I also found the in-ear pieces for OMX80 softer in feel than the Nikes. And, you are able to customize the fit with the malleable earhooks much more so than the Nikes.

* Bass sound is clear, deep and rich compared to the tinny sound in the Nike headset. No comparisons here - next to the fit and feel, this feature is by far the single biggest differentiator between the OMX80 and the Nike products. OMX80 is way out front in sound quality.

* Two color choices, florescent orange or a powder blue. You either love the loud colors or not.

* I have run for well over an hour on rough trail runs and found the OMX80 to be sweat-proof, secure and comfortable to wear.

* OMX80 is lightweight and found no substantially difference in weight between the Nikes.

* As far as durability, so far so good. However, it should be noted that my experience has been mixed with the Sennheiser on this front with wire breaks at the base of the connector in 6 months to 12 months of use with some models while others worked flawlessly as long as 2 years.

* The cable connects snugly to the IPOD and IPHONE. However, one of my frustrations with the cable is its length - it is seemingly designed for 7 footers. And I find because of its length, the cable tangles and is susceptible to pinching and tearing (because I'm too impatient to untangle it before working out)

This is a great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sound and comfort, but..., January 31, 2009

I am happy with the sound quality and comfort of these ear phones, however,
I would echo the fact that the do not seem to be stable in my ears during
serious workouts, like trail running. I wind up fidgeting with them when
I really get sweaty. My thought is that you can only expect so much
stability from a clip on style ear phone no matter how good the design.

Also, I was very confused by the asymetric cable. I had to go to their
website to get the explaination:

Important wearing note! The longer side of the asymetrical cable goes behind the neck and into the opposite ear. This mimics a single sided cable and reduces the amount of cable in front of the wearer during physical activity. This is a safety and ergonomic feature. Please contact Sennheiser with any questions about product fit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Close but not quite, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Sennheiser OMX80 Sport Series II Stereo Earbud Clip On Headphones (Electronics)
I've had these for a little over a month. The sound quality is exceptional for sport earphones, they stay in my ear well, and I like that the ear hook can be shaped to fit your ear.

My only major complaint is the wire set-up. The left earbud cord is short and the right is extra long, so if I put the cord in from of my body, the right earbud cord bounces around my mouth when I run, if I put it behind my neck, it tends to catch a little and feels like its pulling at my ear. Its manageable, but an annoyance.

These are a good pair of ear phones for running and the gym, and with a long enough cord for running on a treadmill. The sound quality is much better than those cheap ear phones you can get at Walmart, etc. However, to get the deep rich bass sound, you really have to push the ear pads into your ears (and I had to use the adapter pieces provided to make the earpad bigger to fit my ear better). My problem is that I sweat a lot and the earphones slip out of my ears, so I tend to lose some of that bass quality. This is my 2nd pair of Sennheiser OMX. The connector/plug pretty much ripped on my first pair, and it wasn't intentional or accidental. I think it is just weak/poor quality materials. All in all, I will buy another pair if my current pair eventually wears out. They are worth the extra money I paid.

These earphones provide reasonably good quality sound and a comfortable fit. Ambient noise is not eliminated (good safety consideration - they don't block out noise from traffic or other runners)which took a little getting used to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Misinformation, January 7, 2010

The Sennheiser OMX80 is a great product with great sound and durability, but...this seller does not mention ANYWHERE on the page that you will receive an OEM version that is missing the case, the wire clip, and most importantly the extra rubber ear buds in different sizes. It is sent in a small unmarked plastic bag. They put a note in the bag saying that this "saves you money" but I think it should be required by Amazon for sellers to disclose that you are NOT getting a new retail package, and it does not include the all items that should come with it from the factory.

3.0 out of 5 stars if you REALLY sweat, read this, November 2, 2009
This review is from: Sennheiser OMX80 Sport Series II Stereo Earbud Clip On Headphones (Electronics)
as an avid worker-outer, i must say that these are "okay", but are certainly not the ultimate workout headphone, (which I'd hoped they'd be, though i've yet to find said ultimate workout headphone). here's my take:

1. ear buds just don't stay in my ear, hence i need something with a band. these offer a very secure fit, and do not move around much during rigorous exercise.
2. i have a really sweaty head, so i need something that is waterproof. these are waterproof, but because they are in ear, sweat actually gets locked in my ear by the headphones, which greatly diminishes sound quality. this only happens during rigorous treadmill action, and again, i take my sweating seriously. i still prefer over the ear headphones, (the sweat can easily escape the ear canal), but apparently these went the way of the walkman. thanks apple.
3. sound quality. very average-ish, but certainly good enough for the gym.

overall, a pretty solid pair of headphones. most will find them very adequate. but if you sweat like a hairy pig in a sauna, you might be let down.

Got these for the wife. She is not very tall so the length of the cord is too long. She finds them a little hard to adjust and they don't stay in place real well for her. Otherwise she is happy. They sound good.
