4.0 out of 5 stars Noise cancelling mic, not speakers!
Overall these are very good headphones. I'm no audiophile but *I* like the sound quality. It's not too hard to make the bass distort on these if you turn up the volume and bass in WinAmp. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great but Mic Craps Out
Well.
I have mixed feelings about the product.
Sound is great.
I have a pair of Grado GR 80's and the Sennheiser's come very close to sound quality.

I will recommned them, particularly at the price I see now (40.00).
I will admit, I do not see other reviews or complaints about the Mic ceasing to work but that is my experience now...

4.0 out of 5 stars Noise cancelling mic, not speakers!, February 6, 2004

This review is from: Sennheiser PC 150 Binaural Headset with Noise-Canceling Microphone and PC/Laptop connectors (Electronics)
Overall these are very good headphones. I'm no audiophile but *I* like the sound quality. It's not too hard to make the bass distort on these if you turn up the volume and bass in WinAmp. However I've found that if you don't turn up the equalizer's bass much at all, the bass on these headphones really is well reproduced. Just don't overdo it on the equalizer, and the headphones will take care of replicating the bass just fine.

The microphone seems very solid and well constructed, as does the whole headset. The microphone's audio quality on TeamSpeak so far as I've heard from my friends hearing me, leaves nothing to be desired. The microphone has a wide swing range so that you can swing it out of the way completely or position it in ideal relationship to your mouth.

At first when I bought these headphones they hurt my left ear quite a bit after about an hour of wearing them. After poking at the headphones a little bit I noticed that the left earpiece wasn't swivelling like the right earpiece. This was causing the headphone to press my ear back to my head, as the headphones have quite a snug fit. After some very strong "wiggling" on the left earpiece I heard a "snap" and the earpiece began to move freely (like the right.) Annoying that I had to do this, but the headphones no longer hurt my ear and really are quite comfortable (the most comfortable mid-size headphones I've owned.) So I'm happy!

Amazon's labelling of this product is a little misleading. It is not the headset that is noise cancelling, but the microphone. The headset is just a normal binaural headset. However, the noise cancelling microphone will be much appreciated by your TeamSpeak / VOIP friends!

The only gripe I have about this headset is that the inline volume control seems to dim the volume more out of the left ear than the right. This is a *slight* difference and only the most sensitive ears can hear it, but it is definitely there. For me, this makes the inline volume control only really useful for lowering the volume so that I can hear things going on around me. This is nice at work, where I have to talk to cooworkers throughout the day. In my opinion a headset in this price range should really have the impedence on inline volume figured out perfectly, but hey -- you can't have everything, especially not at this price!

That said, the inline mic mute works like a charm ;-)

Overall I am very satisfied with the PC150.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Microphone For Dictation!, November 23, 2004
By
This review is from: Sennheiser PC 150 Binaural Headset with Noise-Canceling Microphone and PC/Laptop connectors (Electronics)
I just got this headset in the mail today. Previously, I'd been using a Logitech USB headset, which while the Dragon NaturallySpeaking program rated it as great signal quality, and always been frustrated with the accuracy and speed of the dictation program.

When I first plugged in these headphones, I was initially disappointed because the NaturallySpeaking program rated the signal quality actually lower than the USB headset..... HOWEVER... I've been able to tell a HUGE difference in the program's ability to recognize my speech for the better. I'm happily dictating this review with very few accuracy problems (NaturallySpeaking 7 BTW).

I would recommend this headset for somebody needing to use dictation software without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones, February 15, 2004

This review is from: Sennheiser PC 150 Binaural Headset with Noise-Canceling Microphone and PC/Laptop connectors (Electronics)
After breaking various numbers of headphones over the years, I finally decided to try a new brand. After reading the reviews of these headphones, I decided to try them out (when my other ones broke) Was going to order from Amazon, but it said 1-2 weeks for delivery...

Anyway, I'll give the pros and cons of these headphones:
Pros:
Great, GREAT sound. Everything is clear, bass is great, they seem to have many more channels of sound which is awesome.
Mic is great also. Very good sound quality, slides in and out easy, stays where you put it. Low profile.
Padded headband.
Padded earphones. Very low stress on your ears. Once you take them off you didnt even know you had them on. No "ear rubbing"
Nice long cord.
Mic and vol controls are on the cord.
Nice overall look

Cons:
The earphones are kind of small. However, the sound is still great and alot better then the full ear headphones I'm used to.
Skinny cord, small plugs at the end (had to nit pick for the cons)

Thats about it. These are great headphones, giving awesome sound, combined with a very good mic, and some nice extras to boot (long cord, padded headband)

To the guy posting below me, maybe your soundcard sucks. These sound awesome with an Audity 2.

I will admit, I do not see other reviews or complaints about the Mic ceasing to work but that is my experience now.
I have owned them for three months and have not used them much.
Only for BF2 and I do not play on a squad or that often...so it is really a surprise.

Have swaped out another mic and it works fine but the Sennheiser...no more.

So, you may want to look around sites dedicated to Sennheiser and make sure this is not a pervasive problem.
Also, the lack of available support through Amazon for returns or exchanges has taught me to go to Frys, buy it, try it and return with no restocking fee up to 2 weeks.

So, anyway...good quality sound but beware mic shorting out.

The headphone is a fine and good quality one. However, amazon keeps calling it a noise-cancelling headphone, which it isn't. Only the microphone is noise-cancelling, not the headphone itself.
Overall, I enjoyed this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply excellent, June 7, 2005

Up until a year ago, I had been using the Plantronics Audio 90 headset. I was pretty satisfied with that, as it had decent sound quality and a decent microphone. However, its main problem was its durability. I had them replaced a couple of times and when it broke after the warranty, I decided to spend a few extra dollars and splurge on a higher quality headset.

WOW! All I can say is that the Sennheiser PC150 is superior in every way. I used to think Audio 90 sound quality was good, but the PC150 blew them away. At a recent LAN, my friend wanted to test out my headset, so we swapped for a bit. I was astounded at how bad his Audio 90 in comparison to my PC150. Likewise, he was impressed. Since then, I have bought high quality headphones for travel and their sound quality is only slightly better despite having a significantly higher pricetag.

The microphone on my PC150 is also very good. I've listened to my recorded voice and it's crystal clear. On the other hand, there is a noticable amount of static coming from some of my friends' mics when we're on Ventrilo. I know it's not a server issue, as a friend who also owns a PC150 sounds crystal clear.

But the PC150's durability impressed me more than anything else. The Audio 90 is notorious for its breakability; there are accounts of them breaking even when the owner takes perfect care of them. Well, I treat my PC150 like crap. Drop them on the table, drop them on the floor, roll over the cables in my chair, you name it. But they've taken these beatings and have continued to deliver.

Congrats to Sennheiser for making such a great product. If you want a headset with outstanding sound, microphone, and structural quality, you won't go wrong with the PC150. It may cose twice as much as an Audio 90, but this one has lasted me longer than three of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should have bought a USB headset, August 26, 2005

The headset itself is fine, I'm just sorry I did not go with a USB headset. The audio is "okay." However, if you have a desktop computer, as opposed to a laptop, you will have to get a microphone extension if you have a computer with the headphone jack in the front and the microphone jack in the back. You could plug the headphone into the speaker jack in the back of your computer, but that will mean going to the back of your computer to unplug the headphone plug and reinsert the speaker plug when you want to listen to your speakers. It's a pain. Better going with USB that combines both mic and headphone functions and can easily be plugged and unplugged. This is especially true if you mainly use a headset for on-line audio conversations using MS Messenger or similar software.

Follow-up: I'm sending it back. It's uncomfortable-- heavy, tight, lousy ear cushions. It's always interesting to me that positive reviews of a product get more positive ratings than negative reviews. Buy this headphone and make your own judgment.

I just got the Plantronics Pro 1 headset from CompUSA. Amazon has similar versions that are approximately the same price as the Sennheisers, but more comfortable and the sound is about 50 times better. Also, the USB is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and Worked as Expected, May 14, 2006

I got this headset so that I can use Yahoo PC to phone calling. The sound quality of the headphone is excellent. The bass is nice and strong when I used it to listen to music. The microphone worked great. I asked the people I called whether I sounded as good as when I called them using a regular phone, and they all said that I sounded good. Finally, the top part of the head band is cushioned and sits comfortable on my head. The headset can be worn comfortable for an extended period of time.

This is a five star product because of its exceptional value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best headset around, March 30, 2004
This review is from: Sennheiser PC 150 Binaural Headset with Noise-Canceling Microphone and PC/Laptop connectors (Electronics)
I am using this headset for gaming, music and watching movies and if satisfies all my needs. This is a high-quality sound product, designed smart and with superb technology inside.

The headphones sound very good, the sound is a tad off perfect, but most people won't hear any difference between these and $1000+ studio speakers. The bass is low, deep and energetic, the highs are sharp, crisp and very detectable, the midtones are almost identical to the real sounds.

The noise-cancelling mic is very good, my online buddies in Unreal Tournament 2004 kept saying how well I sounded over voice chat, my voice was like in real life, crystal clear and no ambient noise at all. Great!

Ergonomics are very well done, the headset doesn't bother you, even when playing for a few hours. The long cable is a great idea, it's so refreshing to be able to stand up and grab something three feet away from your seat and not feel your headset cable pull you back like a dog leash. The clip-on volume control/mic mute is also a very smart addition.

These headphones aren't cheap, but well worth the price. This is a great headset for serious gamers, the only (very minor) issue that I can see as negative is the fact the headphones don't cancel noise, so if you turn up the volume above 80% (abnormal level) others can hear the sound coming out of them.

PC150 is the only way to go for serious gamers looking for a high-fidelity headset.

This is the "best" headset I've owned so far! Let me start with the sound quality--it's fantastic. I play FPS online and need to know the exact direction of sounds in the game. 5.1 speakers are great, but when it came to headsets, I was always at a disadvantage. The Sennheiser PC150's solved the problem. It's like having surround sound speakers on your head! The mic is very responsive during my sessions on Teamspeak, very crisp and clear according to my teammates.

The headset itself is super comfortable, but after a few hours of gaming, my ears do start to hurt--it's unavoidable. The earpieces are very spongy and covered in fabric, but a little on the small side. The mic is sturdy and swings up out of the way when not in use. There's also a nice foam pad on the inside of the headband for added comfort.

The price may be a little high, but the sound quality is the best. If you're a hardcore gamer--get the Sennheisers.
