4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money
I'd been laboring under the impression these last few years that the whole 'noise cancelling' thing was a gimmick - then a friend thrust her Bose NC headphones on me for a trip.

I was amazed.

But at $300 the Bose units were just too pricey for me. I waited a while and bought my PXC150 with the Bose experience firmly in mind...

3.0 out of 5 stars good sound with drawbacks
i like the sound, crips high's and mid, not a lot of bass, but sounds very nice, however, this baby is going back because the three drawbacks:

1) it's a mini headphone, my ear hurts after wearing if for extended time, this is more apparent if I compare it with my other headphones.

2) the noise cancellation unit is a pain, make the headphone only...

I'd been laboring under the impression these last few years that the whole 'noise cancelling' thing was a gimmick - then a friend thrust her Bose NC headphones on me for a trip.

I was amazed.

But at $300 the Bose units were just too pricey for me. I waited a while and bought my PXC150 with the Bose experience firmly in mind.

Comments: The tubular battery pack/control unit is a little clunky. Yes, the earcups don't envelope the whole ear, but rather sit on the ears. But the PXC150 has in my judgement 80% of the effectiveness of the Bose unit for 1/3 the cost. They work well and they are less bulky than the Bose units. They have a quality feel (as do the Bose) and it's just plain fun to put them on in a noisy restaurant, a clattering diesel, or any row higher than 24 in an MD80, and sit there like a grinning idiot flicking the on/off switch and marveling at the difference it makes.

An Ipod and decent NC headphones like the Bose or Sennheiser units can transform the business traveler's life.

3.0 out of 5 stars good sound with drawbacks, June 29, 2007

i like the sound, crips high's and mid, not a lot of bass, but sounds very nice, however, this baby is going back because the three drawbacks:

1) it's a mini headphone, my ear hurts after wearing if for extended time, this is more apparent if I compare it with my other headphones.

2) the noise cancellation unit is a pain, make the headphone only useful i I am stationary.

3) uses 2 AAA batteries, the noise cancellation is marginal and cost $$, and gives a slight hiss sound when turned on, which is sometimes annoying when between songs.

biggest issues is the earcup too small, also the ugly bad design of the noise cancellation unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, August 23, 2005

Bought this for a trip to Europe, as the sound of the jet engines is very distressing. Cannot believe what a difference they make. My only complaint is that the design could be better in that they could fold down to a smaller design as I have seen other noise cancelling headphones do.

4.0 out of 5 stars near perfect value, December 20, 2006
This review is from: Sennheiser PXC150 Active Noise Cancelling Headphone (Electronics)
I got these as a gift, but even so the price would have been right for me. I'm not one of those people who has to have music playing all the time, nor do I own an ipod or walk around like a self-absorbed zombie with headphones on everywhere I go. However, noise cancelling headphones can be appreciated by those who aren't interested in alternative noises, but none at all. With these headphones, no entertainment is needed to reap the benefits. You can wear them on a plane and turn them on without even plugging them into anything and get instant peace and quiet - a rare treat these days. Makes me wonder if it's possible to have a "noise cancelling room" set up in the house. Hm - Sennheiser, are you listening?

I first discovered noise cancelling headphones in the business class section of Air France. Even without turning on the music or movies, noise cancelling headphones immediately took away the surrounding noise, making the transatlantic flight much more pleasant. Sennheiser was the supplier of headphones for that plane, though a different model. These perform as well or better than the ones the airline used.

I don't know if there's any evidence to support it, but it would seem that noise cancelling headphones would aid the listener in appreciating music at lower volumes than with ordinary headphones, since one need not jack up the volume to abnormal levels just to compensate for background noise. If so, these might help prevent "ipod ear", which many young people are developing through incessant use of in-the-ear headphones.

Although the battery stick is a little bulky, these headphones aren't meant for jogging, but sitting quietly. Though made in China, German quality control is evident, as the units are well built. It would have been nice if the center headband folded, making the unit more compact and easier for travel. Even so, they are manageable and less bulky than an over-the-ears design. Great value for the money.

I normally use headphones in my work as a musician and bought these for use with my Ipod and they fulfill my needs perfectly in that respect. The sound re-production is great and the noise-cancelling feature further enhances the audio quality. They are not uncomfortable to wear for any length of time and I don't necessarily regard them as flimsy...just appreciably lightweight. I highly recommend them for similar use to mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, but small Headphones, October 26, 2006
This review is from: Sennheiser PXC150 Active Noise Cancelling Headphone (Electronics)
These are some nice, quality headphones that really do block out background noise. I had my doubts, but they surprised me. The only drawback I found is that the frame is pretty small. I have a big head, and they have to stretch to fit over it. Large-headed buyers beware!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not satisfied- returned those, April 11, 2007

tried them one time, the Sound quality not equaled the ones i had earlier, PX-100. Noise cancellation was nominal. The extra noise cancellation peice is hard to carry with other gadgetry. I think they should somehow incorporate it in to the body of the headphone itself. Or at the least give volume/ mute control with it.

they looked like they were folding ones but they are not. I assumed that they folded cos i had the PX 100 which folded.

All in all, had more expectations from senneheiser. I had to return those

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, December 21, 2006
This review is from: Sennheiser PXC150 Active Noise Cancelling Headphone (Electronics)
For the price these headphones can't be beat. They block out background noise exceptionally well. My wife has a pair of the Brookstone Soundshield 250 noise cancelling headphones (which by the way are excellent but cost $150.00) and she agrees with me that they do just as good a job. I would give them 5 stars but, the construction is a little flimsy and they have a bit of an odd shape so you have to fiddle with them a little to get them to sit on your head just right. Or maybe I just have an odd shaped head. I would recommend them to anyone.
