And it sounds great.

These were recommended to me by a sound professional who uses them almost exclusively for mic'ing guitar amps and bass amps at live gigs.

I bought one used for $85. It's great. Placement and EQ aren't as critical as with my SM57 and the sound is smoother. Almost can't get a bad sound. Highly recommended.

The Sennheiser e609 is a great sounding mic. For many years I used the Shure SM57 to mic my guitar amp I always had to bring a mic stand for the SM57. Most of the venues we play at that had their own sound enginer would let me try the Sennheiser I like it because first of all you can hang the mic in front of the cabinet (no mic stand needed) even though it came with a mic clip it also handled the high db with no distortion I got the true sound of the amp with no discoloration wich I got from the SM57. A very good mic at a very good price.

Great instrument mic. for guitar, banjo, dobro or mandolin. good feedback rejection and good at isolating the instrument. Only drawback it mic. clip does not hold the mic well and I had to improvise to keep the mic. stable on the mic. stand. A replacement clip solves this issue.

I bought this mic because people kept bumping or knocking over my SM57 on a short stand while setting up and performing. Over all the clarity is very good, the larger diaphragm (compared to the SM57) picks up a larger portion of the speaker cone and the mic is very easy to use. Very little noise and a great form factor. I've even taken to using this paired with my SM57 when recording my guitars.

I would not recommend using this mic for vocals though. I tried it out just to see how it would hold up and it was just a little too strong in the wrong frequencies.

A great mic in a great form factor worthy of the Sennheiser name.

I use this for recording through a single 12" cabinet. I have ran several tests using various volume levels, amp settings, different mic's etc.
The one and single most important thing I can say about this mic is that it reproduces almost exactly what you hear when standing directly in front of your cabs speaker. I'm not sure if one could ask for anything more than that.
My guitar tracks now breath with life. Clean, overdriven, distorted.

I passed up the more versatile upgrade to this, the 906 as I don't want points of failure (switches) and gravitate towards simplicity.

For those with wives, or even husbands who like to control the money. The side that points out from the mic is black so it camouflages itself quite well against a black speaker grill. If you have cables all over the place, this just may blend right in.

This mic is awesome, its perfect for guitar. Since its supercardioid, it can handle super loud volumes. Great for live performance and great for the studio- it makes your guitar sit nicely in the mix. You can even scream into it and it sounds pretty cool!

This mic by itself is a bit "bright" for my tastes, but I use it in tandem with a second microphone when recording guitars to get a more full sound. I love the lateral construction which allows me to use a clothes pin to hang the mic in front of the amp - one less mic stand on stage.

I have used it in live performances and it works as good or better that a SM-57.
I'll be recording this week and make a direct comparison, but as many people as i see using this mic i am SURE is will be very good.
