4.0 out of 5 stars Great headphones...USB does NOT provide audio! June 14, 2013
Verified Purchase
I just received these headphones this week, and they work really well. It was hard to know from the description and reviews if these would work with other devices besides the xbox, but it actually does. I was led to believe that audio came from the usb connector, but this isn't true. The USB only provides power. The sound actually comes in via the RCA to 2 mm stereo jack from the control dongle. You can adapt this cable using a female RCA to male 3.5 mm adapter if you want to plug this into your laptop or mp3 player, etc. I've ordered a 2mm to 3.5 mm cable to actually replace the RCA cable to see if that works as well. I played Halo on this, and it definitely helps immerse you in the game. The sound is rich and full. My only complaint is that the cable is very long, and therefore doesn't roll up very well. However, it's understandable if you play your game 10 feet from the screen (I play my xbox primarily from my computer screen using a VGA connector).

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhh Sennheiser.... You are an eargasm! January 5, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Past headsets I've owned:

Turtle Beach X-41 (hated)
Tritton AX180 (hated)
Turtle Beach X-11 with TB DSS (loved, owned 2 pair after dog got a hold of the 1st. Even gifted a set of X-12's to my nephew)

So my three main criteria:

1) I prefer wired headsets - no batteries, no wireless interference (X-41 downfall)

2) Comfort (Tritton downfall)

3) Sound Quality

The X320 delivers majorly on all fronts.

They are light and the ear-padding is second to none. They feel like pillows caressing the side of your face. I've worn these on long session with absolutely no fatigue.

Sennheiser is a benchmark name in audio products so I'd expect nothing but the best in sound quality and boy do these deliver. I married this headset to my TB DSS sound processor (you'll need a jack adapter to do this) and the sound quality is nothing short of phenomenal. I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile so I don't say this lightly. I thought I was getting great sound and all of the necessary audible cues with my previous headsets, but I'm hearing new sounds every session with the Senn's that I've never heard before. I've been extremely impressed and satisfied with these.

So the bad... If I had to nitpick something, I'd prefer that the adjustments on the headsets be a little tighter. The slides that adjust the cups up and down on your head feel a little loose. They look kind of ugly in the pictures, but are much better looking in real life. Also, I bought these here for $150 marked down from $180 and like a week later the marked them down to $100... :( Oh well, I'd buy them again at $150, and at $100, it's a no brainer... Get these AND the DSS.

My 2nd match of MW3 that I ever played with these I got my only M.O.A.B. and I'm not a good player by any means, but I attribute it to this headset and Christmas Noobs! YAY!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic quality...with one notable complaint October 16, 2012

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I got these knowing the great reputation of Sennheiser headphones. These headphones don't disappoint when it comes to audio quality. The sound is very balanced and crisp, which may not be to everyone's liking if you want a more dynamic audio range for action packed movies and games, but the quality is there to hear nevertheless.

These would have been the perfect headphones for me but unfortunately I decided to return them due to the mic. The mic has a noise isolating function in order to prevent background noise going through, in order to do so it is basically muted until you speak directly into it at a certain volume for it to pick up. This was a problem for me as my friends would only hear the second half of my sentences when I spoke...as well as it became difficult for me to speak at all during nighttime sessions when I have to be quiet due to my paper-thin walls.

If the issue with the mic doesn't apply to you then this product will be excellent though.

Pros:
Great stereo sound quality, especially better than Turtle Beach x11s (without DSS)
Tighter fitting ear cups keep the noise in
Does not bear down on the top of your head since the sides clamp a little to your head
Rubberized grip on the volume and chat controls. Allows easy and slight adjustments.

Cons:
Needs an adapter to connect to the Turtle Beach DSS2
2.5mm audio jack instead of the more common 3.5mm (hence the adapter)
It was pricier than Turtle Beach x11s or x12s (I snagged when they were $39.99)

In Detail

I have always been a Sennheiser fan, but when these were first released at $150 I said no way. I had already purchased my TB x11s and had been satisfied with their quality and performance. The DSS2 was also a bonus to the Turtle Beach set, and it allowed amazingly accurate sound location and I thought things could not get any better. I could hear every foot step and bullet fly by my head, and when I was bored of games I could blast music with the deepest of bass and clarity.

Yet, I found myself watching the price on the Sennheiser x320s for over a year. I finally gave in and purchased them, this is my experience.

Out of the package you find the same amount of cables associated with ANY WIRED headset. There is the main cable attached to the USB for power, and the audio input cables (standard red and white cables, but in this case they output in the 2.5mm jack) that feed into the main line at some point. There is the mic cable that connects to the inline volume control. The Turtle Beach x11s have the exact same cables, only they are 3.5mm jacks.

Set up was easy, and with a few wire wraps all the mess and tangle was controlled.
