1.0 out of 5 stars nice voice, syrupy arrangements
I was disappointed by this CD. Feliciano's voice is terrific, but the arrangements are very slick, "saccharine", especially if, like me, you have developed a taste for the Cuban bolero. For comparison, see Reinaldo Creagh's "Boleros de toda una vida" Less magnificient a voice, but splendid traditional arrangements.

5.0 out of 5 stars A performer whose voice is well-suited to the material, May 1, 1999

Feliciano's voice is not as rich as Luis Miguel's but he uses it very well and this album is packed with terrific songs. His guitar playing is superlative.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a kind, January 6, 2007
This review is from: Senor Bolero (Audio CD)
I have never been a huge fan of Jose Feliciano but this product is of a quality that you will bargain and win. The song, the melody, the interpreter Jose wow! one of a kind. Senor Bolero will invite you to listen to the first song and you won't stop until you have delited yourself with the whole product, then you will listen to it over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful and Romantic with Lush Arrangements, October 2, 2003
This review is from: Senor Bolero (Audio CD)
Jose Feliciano and the Bolero have been linked together since the 1960's. Feliciano's first major blush with success came when he first recorded in this popular style and after one of his first releases titled "La Copa Rota" the name of Feliciano and the Bolero became synonymous to music lovers of the genere. In this album Jose's soulful, silky voice has matured quite a bit and he sounds fantastic. The selection of songs are all beautifully arranged and recorded. Overall this is a great album I enjoyed the songs and Jose's as always is very passionate about what he sings. You can also hear his great guitar playing although to a lesser extend on this reocrding. Other instruments fill out most of the songs and Feliciano's guitar is mostly on the background. That is the only thing I regret about this album is that you don't hear his brilliant playing as you do in his other albums, however nevertheless it's still a wonderful collection of boleros masterfully performed by the one and only, the GREAT Jose Feliciano.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different Feliciano, August 6, 2001

An extraordinary album. Compared with the traditional mainstream pop recordings for which most of us know him ('Light My Fire', etc.), this album is a revelation. His lush expression, smoky vocals, and the romantic beauty of the songs he has chosen, make this recording a constant fixture in my CD menu. Best song on the album? 'Como Fue' -- a beautiful lament for love lost. You can hear the tears in his voice. And most of the songs evoke a romanticism and gentle beat not readily found in current Latin music, today's jazz mixed with a flavor that might have been found echoing from the guitars of rancheros 200 years ago. Don't miss this one.

Hadn't heard any Felciano in a few years. What a most pleasant surprise to come upon this "find!" Started me on a Felciano buying spree.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not his Best!, November 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Senor Bolero (Audio CD)
It was certainly different, but all the hype by Universal did not justify the actual product. Just when I was about to give up on ever buying another Feliciano album (like there are not enough out there), I came across the DVD/CD Jose Feliciano, Ayer, Hoy y Siempre. I am once again a Feliciano fan. The CD is great, many of the songs I have never heard before, and they really give you your monies worth with the DVD, they threw everything in there except the kitchen sink! Live concert, with great DVD authoring, plus Celia Cruz, and a Santana Duet on the CD as an added bonus. Buy it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Sr. Bolero, June 29, 2001

Too slick, too smooth, none of the passion of "Light My Fire." The background violins get in the way. As luck would have it, I have a recording of "Como Fue" by the great Beny More. Jose sounds like an amateur by comparison. In fact, Jose does not sound as good as Ibrahim Ferrer, who came out with his own version of "Como Fue" a couple of years ago. Jose's voice and guitar playing sound as good as ever. The album notes provide the lyrics and translations. A good album for watching the moon with someone you love. 51 minutes total playing time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album!!, April 13, 1999

Jose Feliciano brings his unique voice and style to this collection of traditional and new boleros. The melodies of not only the old, familiar boleros but also the original ones written for this album keep running through my head. The new compositions definitely capture the feel of traditional boleros and should become classics too. If you love boleros, this album is a must. If you love Feliciano, this is definitely going to be a favorite.
