4.0 out of 5 stars 1976: American turns 200, Nadia is perfect and Jimmy wins
1976 was not only the year of the Bicentennial and the national day of celebration on the 4th of July, but the year a peanut farmer from Plains, Georgia won a bitterly contested election for the Presidency over Gerald Ford; the election literally split the nation in half, with Carter getting the East and South while Ford took the Mid-West and Far West. 1.0 out of 5 stars Hugely disappointing
Don't bother. I don't know what the producers were thinking about, but this will put you to sleep. If you think you're going to get a "sensational" encapsulized look at '76, forget it. It wanders, wastes time, misses important moments. A bad, bad, bad effort. I rated this at one star only because you don't get the option here to give anything a zero.

This review is from: Sensational 70's: 1976 Year of the Bicentennial [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This videotape from the Sensational 70's series recalls everything from the Israeli raid on Entebbe to the perfect scores earned by Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci at the Olympics. From the Mars landing to mud wrestling, the year 1976 is captured in detail. This was the year that the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was not inherently cruel or unusual punishment and a mysterious disease claimed 29 lives at an American Legion convention in Philadelphia. This is one of the better tapes in this series and if you have managed to forget Idi Amin, "1976: Year of the Bicentennial" will certainly remind you. At 48-minutes in length, this tape is pretty much ideal for showing in class, but the focus is so narrow you might be better suited screening something that focuses more on the entire decade. However, I think this tape would be especially nice if 1976 was the year you were born as a way of letting you know what else was happening that pivotal year of human existence.
