Sensational See Creatures, May 16, 2011
This review is from: Sensational Sea Creatures (Marvels of Creation) (Hardcover)
Sensational Sea Creatures, by Buddy and May Davis, is one of four information-packed books in the Marvels of Creation collection. Every page features a gorgeous, glossy photo of a creature that lives in or near the oceans and the facing page contains fascinating facts about that animal. Like all books from New Leaf Press, Marvels of Creation: Sensational Sea Creatures is written with a Christian worldview, without the evolutionary worldview that's ubiquitous in most books of its kind.
* Did you know that the clownfish, that adorable orange and white fellow in Finding Nemo, is an assassin? The Clownfish lures other fish into the stings of the sea anemone, whose poison is deadly to all but himself, and then feeds on the remains. I'm a little disappointed, frankly. I thought Nemo was a good kid. Guess even clown fish have to eat!
* The Coelacanth is known as a living fossil because scientists thought that they were extinct until 1938, when a live coelacanth was caught in South Africa. The Coelacanth made rather a dummy of evolutionary assumptions by disproving many theories about how the animal lived and moved and stubbornly refusing to evolve after even so many "millions" of years.
* The male seahorse carries fertilized eggs in his pouch until they hatch. Imagine that, moms!
Sensational Sea Creatures is packed with this kind of information. Its 78 pages contain many evidences of design by a creator, along with a glossary so you and your child can build your vocabulary while you learn.
(I'm affiliated with New Leaf Press and Master Books, and am reviewing this book as one of the "Moms of Master Books".)

EXCELLENT! Scientific Book!! Backed Up by Actual Scientists, February 15, 2008
This review is from: Sensational Sea Creatures (Marvels of Creation) (Hardcover)
This is a fabulous book for all children! People who choose to criticize this book, need to point out actual scientific facts that they believe contradict the book -- not just quote part of the book and say it is not factual! Finally, if you believe that this book is NOT scientifically based, go to the web-site of AnswersinGenesis.org and look at the credentials of the scientists behind this masterpiece! Again, "INSPECT what you EXPECT!" Do not randomly push something aside because you feel it is from a faith perspective. ALSO for the RECORD, AIG DOES NOT promote Intelligent Design!!!!!

Fiction Shelved with Science - Oops!, August 13, 2007
This review is from: Sensational Sea Creatures (Marvels of Creation) (Hardcover)
The general subjects listed for this book are "juvenile nonfiction, animals, marine life" and the photographs are beautiful. I purchased it for my elementary school library thinking it appropriate for the science shelf. Upon receipt, however, I was disappointed to realize that the book is a religion-based promotion of Intelligent Design and contains a lot of non-factual information (for ex., "Some of the animals in this book appear to be very dangerous to man and other animals around it (sic). These features appear as a result of Adam's rebellion in the Garden of Eden." "After sin, some of the animals became aggressive and started killing one another." ) There is an entire chapter within the book devoted to the religious concept of Intelligent Design, including statements such as "Evolution dissipates into thin air as the complexities of design shine forth." The publisher classifies the book (in very small print on the back cover) as "General Interest / General Topic / Christian Education." This book is NOT non-fiction, should not be presented to readers as factual, and does not belong on a science shelf within any collection.
