Book Description

If our memory is the thing that shapes and defines us, that informs who we are at our very core, then God help us all...for memory, is a wicked and deceitful wretch.

Thrust into a search for his own sister's killer, Benjamin Cady flees Colorado and the only world he understands to scour the streets of Los Angeles, plagued by headaches and memories of murder. He quickly discovers that L.A. is not unknown to him, and as his memories of his sister's death become clearer, so does the possibility that Ben himself may be the murderer.

Lieutenant Jim Banquer has plenty of bodies, but every witness seems to be suffering from a mysterious form of amnesia. Investigating these deaths means he must piece together the scattered shards of a deadly power scheme that goes well beyond murder, and Ben is the key.

Sense Memory is a psychological thriller that weaves an intricate web of intrigue and mystique as the story develops from a slow burn to a raging crescendo.

A sure page-burner, this story will stay with you long after the smoke clears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down, lost when it ended. March 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Fast paced with authentic characters and great dialogue. We need more from this author! It was one of those books that left me in mourning for the loss of a good story when it ended. That's a good thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystery, Psychological Thriller, Mind Games.... May 24, 2013
By Dorothy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very unusual book. It is a mystery, a psychological thriller, and there is so much mind games in it I would have to consider it some sort of mentalist story as well. Hmmm... Is there such a thing? My review may not do this book adequate justice as I am sort of blown away from the storyline and the implications of it.

To take a direct quote from the book description; "If our memory is the thing that shapes and defines us, that informs who we are at our very core, then God help us all...for memory, is a wicked and deceitful wretch." So, what happens to us, as human beings, if we can add memories to someone, or subtract memories from someone? What if we can change the course of one of our memories or those of someone else? Do we remain the same if any of these three things happen to us? I don't believe so, and the course of this story shows we would not. Frightening isn't it?

This story is well written. It is easy to follow, and easy to read. The story flows smoothly, and you will be on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I would love to have an intellectual conversation with the author of this book. For him to write this type of story, I think it would be really interesting.

The characters are well written. Are they believable? I think that depends on how much you believe that someone can get inside your mind and change your memories. The mind is a very powerful tool. Can one powerful mind reek havoc inside another's mind? I just do not know.

Our main character is Benjamin Cady. Ben leaves Colorado for Los Angeles to scour the streets in search of his sisters killer. Ben is plagued by memories of murder and debilitating headaches. Ben rapidly discovers that Los Angeles is not unknown to him.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unpredictable, Fun, and Intriguing Journey April 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book dragged me into its world and then slowly unraveled it's weird mysteries, pulling me along all the while with little character quirks and jokes that cracked me up. It is dark, funny, twisty and mysterious. I could never tell what was going to happen next in the story and always wanted to know was going to happen next. This is a tale spun from Brion's deep wells of creativity, offering up something unlike anything you've read before. The creative ideas in this book are inspiring. It was a little "The Door To December" by Dean Koontz, a little, "I Am Not A Serial Killer" by Dan Wells, and yet very much something all its own and unlike anything I've ever read before. It is very much in the awesome and unique voice of Brion Humphrey. For a first novel, this is one heck of a horse to come out of the gates with. I can't wait to read his next one, because he's only going to get better and he's already a gifted writer and storyteller. If you're looking for something a little different sprinkled with many of the things you love from other genre fiction books, you should grab a copy of this book. It's a fun read that keeps you turning the pages with it's interesting characters, shocking action, and gripping modern story world wrapped in layers of strange treasures to unveil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book August 8, 2013
By Carol J
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once this story began to unfold, I was hooked and couldn't wait for each unfolding addition. Ben Cady somehow is able to re-live the memories of a sadistic killer. Each memory is physically painful and in the beginning he can't discern the memories as his own or not. When he finally is able to determine whose memories he has tapped into the cat and mouse chase is on. Good vs Evil...lots of twists and turns. You have to stretch a bit with this but heck, isn't that what a good story is supposed to do? - take you away, why not away from realities.
