Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Deluxe Edition includes a bonus DVD. A Sense of Purpose is trademark of In Flames catchy melodic riffs abound, Anders Frid‚n's signature rasp is in full form, and electronic beeps, bleeps, plus synth pads flesh out that unmistakable In Flames sound. The fist-raising anthems are here, but we've heard them all before. Sure, for long-time In Flames devotees, living album-to-album like junkies waiting for their next fix, A Sense of Purpose is a welcome and familiar dose of melodic industrial Death Metal. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Scorching Album, May 24, 2008
By Gracie Houston (Santa Cruz, California) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is In Flames ninth release and is a bit more melodic than death metal sounding albums unlike their previous releases. Of course, they still are a death metal band, but singer Anders Friden slightly changes his vocal styles. He doesn't growl as much with his singing as with previous albums. The second song and in my opinion best track is "A Sense of Purpose", which Friden snarling out lyrics many can relate to.

The band over the years have maintained a great reputation for being a great death metal band. This album has Friden displaying a more diverse style of vocals that's more inviting to fans. Songs like "Sleepless Again" and "Alias" have scorching guitar rhythms and unforgettable hooks. The whole album is crafted with the perfect agro (you know, meaning aggressive) music that captures any metal music fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars If "A Sense of Purpose" was in regards to creating a amazing album they suceeded, May 10, 2008
This review is from: A Sense Of Purpose (MP3 Download)
Okay, here we go, new in flames, they return after "come clarity" storming in the metal world with there latest effort, A Sense of purpose, okay let me start off here,

All you guys who say " its not as good as ohhh say clayman, reroute to remain, or soundtrack to your escape" there's never gonna be another one of those again, and even though they are all amazing, you cant just copy the same old style and manipulate , especially For In flames, who has sooo many albums out there

Anyhow moving on, the albums is well made in my opinion,

Of Course the opening song the mirrors truth, quite literally is just all around amazing. it will melt ears. others like alias, disconnected, sleepless again, I'm the highway and delights and anger are incredible, of course i think they went for a very diverse range on this album, all the songs have a different feel to them for the most part,

Overall i say In Flames deserves an applaud for an album ive listened to over and over again, and one of the best efforts ive heard in quite some time

2.0 out of 5 stars At least its better than their last album, April 29, 2008
By J. Sarro (Winthrop, MA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Okay, so its a little better than Come Clarity, but this new In Flames is not my style. Where's the Melodic Death Metal? This seems more like Emocore/metalcore crap. The half-hearted scream is completely soul-less, and the constant "Take This Life" guitar rhythm just gets old. Here's a great example of Pro Tools in action...a little pitch correction and Anders can suddenly "sing." It just goes to show how simple most Americans are...throw in a cheesey hook and a simple melody and everyone eats it up like its cheese...all they need is a synthetic string section and they're all set for American Pop status. Give me some Jester's Race, Whoracle, Clayman, and Subterranean anyday.
