If you like Anne Rice's "Beauty" series, October 18, 2010
This review is from: The Senses Bejewelled (Nexus) (Mass Market Paperback)
Anyone attuned to the sensuous style of submission plumbed in the Anne Rice Sleeping Beauty trilogy should love this, the sequel to Cordell's "The Captive Flesh".
It's actually much cheerier than the Rice trilogy, but much of the ambience is nonetheless similar. Cordell has fun with the storybook trappings of pirates and kidnappings, but the real emphasis is on sensual descriptions of bared flesh and fetishistic clothing, and the inner mental space of the sensuously submissive heroine, whose amorous feelings encompass a number of beloveds of both genders, as well as some more disposable playmates.
This is hardcore erotica, so less adventurous readers should not apply. But it is a loving exploration of fantastic extremes of submission, and in that context it's an upbeat piece of polyamorous escapism. It's also very lushly written, and the plentiful erotic scenes are clever, varied, and imaginatively detailed.

Disappointing, October 27, 2008
This review is from: The Senses Bejewelled (Nexus) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this to be a bit dull and boring. The write up of the book made it sound a lot better than it truly is.
