5.0 out of 5 stars 16' Storm Shield Review
I purchased this Storm Shield threshhold several months ago. I did read other reviews and followed some advice. I bought a tube of liquid nails construction adhesive to make sure I would have plenty. 3.0 out of 5 stars poor quality cement, September 23, 2005
After having a new 15' garage door installed in my workshop, I purchased a 16' Storm Shield garage door threshold kit to keep out rainwater from seeping in underneath the door. I found the rubber threshold itself to be of very good quality, but, the two tubes of cement (around 4 - 6 oz. tubes) that came with it were hard to use. That is, I found it difficult to squeeze out the beads of cement fast enough along the threshold's entire length before they began to harden - i.e. outer layer of cement skinned over. It would have been much better if the company provided a large enough tube of cement that one could apply with a caulking gun. Also, if you lay down the cement according to the tight pattern shown in the instructions, you will not have enough cement for the entire length of threshold. In spite of the fact that I spread the cement as evenly as I could and then rolled the top of the threshold to adhere it to the concrete floor, a small amount of rainwater leaked under the threshold a week later. I've since fixed this by caulking the outside edge of the threshold with GE Silicone II caulking compound.

If you're going to use this product, I suggest that you discard the cement supplied with it. Then purchase a large tube of Liquid Nails and apply it quickly with a manual caulking gun. For added waterproofing you might add an additional bead of a silicone caulking compound under the outside edge of the threshold before you turn it over and position it on the floor of your garage. In preparation for this job I clean the area of the concrete floor well with detergent and clean water rinses. After the floor has dried, I'll lay down a chalk line denoting the outer edge of the threshold. Finally, I apply masking tape along this chalk line. This tells me where the threshold's outside edge should be and later allows me to trim off the hardened, excess silicone compound with a razor blade or utility knife. This excess caulking will then come away with the masking tape and leave a nice attractive edge on the outside of your new threshold.

5.0 out of 5 stars 16' Storm Shield Review, February 19, 2007

I purchased this Storm Shield threshhold several months ago. I did read other reviews and followed some advice. I bought a tube of liquid nails construction adhesive to make sure I would have plenty. Once you start installing the threshold, you don't want to run short of adhesive. I also prefit the threshold on the floor and marked the outside edge with a pencil. I then placed masking tape on the outside mark. After installing the product I ran a small bead of clear silicone along the tape, where it met the threshold. After it dried I ran a razor knife along the tape and removed it. This made a nice looking job with easy cleanup. To make a long story short, installation was easy and the threshold has worked great. No more snow or water puddles under my door. I highly recommend this if your floor has any of these problems. It also helps if you have a heated garage to keep out drafts!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for a garage door accessory, maybe i'm pushing it, December 7, 2003
By A Customer
A simple product that does exactly what it is suppose to do. Easy to install. Just make sure to check the placement once the glue is down and the door is closed. This will ensure if the threshold moves you still have time to fix.
No more rain water in the garage after 3 big storms. gotta love it

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, poor cement, November 3, 2005

Like another review stated, the threshold itself is of high quality, but the cement that comes with it is very hard to squeeze out of the tubes. Suggest you purchase liquid nails or equivalent and apply with glue gun. I also feel it took way to long to receive, I ordered it on Oct 22, it shipped on Oct 31, and I finally received today. Next time I won't use the super saver shipping option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garage Door Threshold, October 11, 2005
Exactly what I was looking for, good quality product and was installed in a snap, and the price was more than good, most of the other sellers ask for almost twice as much for a similar product. It really does the job at a great cost.

The product works, it has created a barrier below my garage door that holds back dirt and leaves. My garage door always had a problem with sealing as the lower door gasket would never seal properly and kept falling off the sides. I was hoping I could remove the gasket but the Door Sheild isn't soft enough by itself to create the seal. I put the gasket back on and it now seals almost completely. You do feel a bump as you drive your car over it but it doesn't move. I used the glue that came with it, there was plenty. I had a question about using the glue after reading other reviews so I called customer service, they were very helpful, and had some great tips on installation.

I am satisfied with the product and installation was easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Storm Shield Works!, August 31, 2005
I installed 16' Storm Shield Garage Door Thresholds recently, and they work extremely well. We have experienced several heavy rains and the leakage was nil. No more puddles and clean up required. The product was easy to install, and performs very well. I recommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product..Need More Glue, January 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just installed the Storm Shield today and I must say the directions are great and the installation is pretty easy. One suggestion I have is to buy a small tube of liquid Nails to suppliment the glue which comes with the product. I only needed 8 feet of my 10 foot strip and I really had to work to get enough glue out of that tube. I used 1 inch masking tape on each side of the strip so any glue that came out as I was pressing it down would be easily removed from the floor when I pulled up the tape. Another tip is to let the strip lay in the sun until it lays flat on the ground...otherwise you will need to put something heavy on the ends to prevent them from curling up while the glue is drying. Once the strip was in I couldn't see any light under the door, BUT the corners of the garage door are not blocked by the strip. So I used some of the extra strip I had to make corner guards...tomorrow I will ad some coulking to the corners to create a COMPLETE seal. Now I will need to wait for the next Big California storm.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get yourself some liquid nails, January 20, 2006
This is a good product and once installed seems to perform as advertized. I had a problem with sand & rainwater blowing under my garage door. This product has stopped the sand very well, but we haven't had any rain since instalation.

the one problem was that there are only two tubes of adhesive provided & this isn't enough to install according to the instructions, so I just put down two straight beads & didn't fool with the zigzag bead in the center. This seemed suficiant.

the other thing is that the adhesive is very difficult to squeese out of the tubes if you have any Arthritis in your hands. It needs to come in a tube you can use in a caulking gun, like liquid nails.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well and keeps out the bugs, December 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Reading some of the other reveiws it seems most are pretty satisfied with this product; as am I. I installed this item about 18 months ago in my garage and recently bought another and installed it in my parents garage. In both cases, the glue supplied with the kit was adequate (my garage is a 2 1/2 car and my parents is a 2 car garage). Ensure you clean the surface of the garage where this item is to be installed to ensure you get a good bond the first time. I scrubbed with a good stiff brush and some soapy detergent water, then rinsed with a powerwasher. I found the easist thing to do for installation was to trace the inside of the garage door (while down)then trace the outside of the garage door (once again while down) so you end up with two lines on the ground, then I placed the strip down on the ground and closed the garage down once again - to ensure the strip was where it needed to be; between the lines and in-line with the garage door seal (only took minimal adjustments). Once I was happy with the placement, I then traced around the strip, pulled it up and applied the adhesive to the ground and a bead straight down the center of the strip (backside). After all of that I installed it and Voila - instant barrier against water leakage, bugs and even wind. I work a lot in my garage and have noticed a tremendous difference in air leakage or should I say - lack thereof.
It's a simple project for the DIYer, cost effective, and saves you time if you're into keeping your garage floor relatively clean. I would suggest (which i believe the instructions do as well) not to drive over it for about 24-36 hours.
