5.0 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN I EXPECTED, June 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sensor (Audio CD)
since it's been years since the last full lenth album and they switched producers half way through the production of this album, i was a little nervous about how this record would turn out. Well...I am VERY impressed. SENSOR is, without a doubt, the best CAMOUFLAGE album ever. They've taken the best elements from each of their albums and married them into this masterpiece. The original trio is back together and they sound very comfortable with what they are doing. It took me over an hour to get past tracks 1-7 because they're that good and i kept going back. the cd starts of with the brilliant first single "Me and you" and it's b-side "Perfect". Then comes one of the best tracks on the album, "HARMFUL". Although it's a slower number - which most of the album is- Marcus delivers some of his best vocals ever. and very beleivable.Great lyrics and great melody. Next highlight is the next single, "I CAN"T FEEL YOU"- Starts of slow but builds into a big song. A little rock-ier than most Camo songs. Actually, i think that this song can be a huge radio hit in America if ever released here. Out of the 13 tracks here, two are instrumental and about 4 are uptempo. the rest are more mellow. But dont let that discourage you. Another slammin' track on here is "I'LL Follow BEHIND"-wait till you hear this! JUST AWESOME. Kind of reminds me of Depeche Mode's "It's No Good". Very fast and dancable. "Theif", which was released like four years ago, is included here. This song has been completely re-recorded and sounds nothing like the original. I happen to prefer the original and this is the only disapointing thing to me about this cd. But thats ok because i have the original single. This cd is perfect. Marcus' voice is just beautiful and delivers on every track. they couldn't have done a better job.Get this cd-its worth every penny you spend. Enjoy it and appreciate the fact that Camouflage always delivers and gets better and better in their 16 year carreer with every release. I havn't been this excited about a new release in a while

If you are a fan of synthpop-you must purchase this CD. Even if you are not a fan, but you have good taste in music-you must purchase this CD. It's mellow yet upbeat, with the whole album listenable from start to finish. Great job Camouflage!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait!, May 16, 2004
This review is from: Sensor (Audio CD)
It was eight years in the making, and it didn't disappoint. After their dreadful Spice Crackers album that nearly lost me as a fan, I simply couldn't believe how great these tracks sounded after first listening to them. I Can't Feel You is the strongest track, and most of the others are strong enough to be released as singles in their own right as well. This album has been in the most repeated playlist of my ipod now since its release and will likely be there for some time to come. I'll Follow Behind is my second fav after Feel You. Check it out!

I just had to chime in and say how great this CD is.
I've had it for a good year now and it's still a great CD to listen to.
I know the price is a bit high for a CD (About $28 as I write this), but it is worth it, the CD is that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their Best (So Far), February 10, 2011
This review is from: Sensor (Audio CD)
This is not only their best, it's among the best (if not THE best) electronica I own.

...Which brings up the synthpop/electronica question. Which is Camo?

Short answer: Both.

Long Answer: Camo started off as synthpop (often compared to and even mistaken for Depeche Mode). In 1995 they released Spice Crackers, which was something of a departure from their earlier work and put them more into the electronica camp. Then for many years (OK, 8), no albums. In 2003, Sensor and subsequently Relocated -- both solidly electronica.

If you like Relocated and/or the recently re-released Spice Crackers (or you just like great electronica), you MUST get Sensor.

If you like the earlier synthpop Camo and want to delve into their later offerings, you might consider starting off with Spice Crackers instead -- it's also an excellent album (second only to Sensor in my Camo scorebook), and an easier transition. That also goes for non-Camo/synthpop fans who don't have a lot of electronica (like maybe Pet Shop Boys fans). People who ARE into electronica should buy BOTH (and probably Relocated as well).

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazed! If you loved Violator by DM you will LOVE this album, May 5, 2010

What can I say? From the first track, you feel like you are in a Synthpop heaven. I accidentally heard some tracks from this album while listening to my Depeche Mode radio station on [...] and as soon as I heard the tracks i knew I needed to get the whole CD. Now, it isn't available on iTunes so I had to get the CD. Luckily, Amazon had a seller who sent it to me in great condition even though it was a used CD. I imported the CD into my iPhone and....I was in synthpop heaven. Man, I miss the pre-Ultra version of Depeche Mode...this album is what should have followed Songs of Faith and Devotion. While DM has had some songs I have liked after Alan's departure ("It's No Good"), Depeche mode severly misses him and we as fans miss him. This album goes a long way in soothing our musical hearts. Too bad that Camouflage has disbanded....sigh.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Camouflage album, April 5, 2008

This is the most solid album they have released. Yes, it is better than their newer CD Relocated although it is less "dancy", should that matter to you.

Production and mastering are excellent -- all tracks are clean and flow smoothly. The vocal performance is very good with more even and clear mixing than any previous release. The lyrical depth is better than Voices & Images or Methods of Silence.

It has a very modern sound which is better developed (less experimental) than Bodega Bohemia or Meanwhile.

If you like (synthpop, insert random electronic genre here) music and don't need to listen to "happy music" all the time, you will probably like this.

I know this cd is now two years old...but I never get tired of
listening to it.....

This is a great cd it is worth the import price.

Been listening to them since Voices And Images and I felt they had some less than good material since then..but this is the best ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, September 21, 2005

I hardly ever write reviews. But this one was such a positive surprise! I bought it on the strengths of the reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. Overall the album is somewhat mellow, but that's a good thing. Camouflage's sounds matured - the production is top notch and the compositions are excellent. A very solid album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable!, April 16, 2005

What a surprise! I had listened to an old Camouflage release, and took a chance on Sensor. I would say it sounds like a great combo of 25% Gary Neuman, 25% Depeche Mode, 50% Cause and Effect. I enjoyed every track, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a 21st century refresh of our most revered 80's alternative sounds.
