Full disclosure: I've never read an erotic poetry/short story book before. That being said, I'm not entirely sure on which merit to judge this book.
Sensual Reality is very much like porn, there are the cliché characters: The masseuse, the relative, the boyfriend, the stranger, etc. And each story ends in an amazingly vivid sex scene. You get a hint of their relationship, a little build-up, and then we're thrust (pun intended) into the swing of things.
Overall the book was enjoyable, and if you've got a vivid imagination there's more than enough imagery there to perform its intended function, and while you could be brave and read it out in public, you might have a more enjoyable experience in a more personal setting.
But the book isn't perfect. The formatting for some of the poems are are little disjointed, and it took me a few sentences to realize I was reading a poem as opposed to a poem. Also, the few instances of blank spaces where the reader is to fill in their name does nothing but kill the experience, simply because you're going to have readers of both genders and they came so late in the story (and without warning) that it pulled me out of an otherwise enjoyable read.
All in all, Sensual Reality is a great freshman effort by Brooklyn author Leroi "Ran Da Man" Reed, it earns a solid 4 stars in spite of some wonky formatting and gimmicky fill-in-the-blank because it really delivers on the eroticism. This book is a solid erotic effort. Kudos to the author, and I look forward to his next published work.
