4.0 out of 5 stars The horrors of war revealed, April 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sentenced to Remember: My Legacy of Life in Pre-1939 Poland and Sixty-Eight Months of Nazi Occupation (Hardcover)
This book was written by the father of a high school friend. Growing up when we all did, the war was something nobody really spoke about. I had no idea that many of my friends' parents had suffered so much. Mr. Kornbluth's book is well written. It's difficult to read about some of the things that were done because they are just so horrible and hard to believe that human beings could do such things to others. Reading this book has given me a new insight into what suffering, pain, despair and absolute horror really are. The book really makes you wonder how so called civilized people could turn into such monsters and makes you appreciate the courage, strength and sheer will it took to survive. As I said, some of the "actions" he describes are gut-wrenching but everyone should read this and learn what these people endured.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgiveness and Never Forgetting!, February 27, 2011
This review is from: Sentenced to Remember: My Legacy of Life in Pre-1939 Poland and Sixty-Eight Months of Nazi Occupation (Hardcover)
This book was given to me by the author's son, Phil Kornbluth. I had the occasion to read this book when I was travelling to Walt Disney World with my wife and kids for the first time in their lives. It was kind of ominious in that, you would not think that would be my preferred choice of reading material. It was a very emotional book, it provoked so much emotion inside of me, I did not know how horrible people could be to other people simply because of their religion. The author, William Kornbluth suffered at the hands of the Nazi's in Poland for a significant period of time and was ready to give up life at less than 70 lbs until his freedom. I highly recommend this book, this man's life is a testament to his tenacity, his love of his country, his life, his making his way in this country and raising a very succesfull set of children. I am honored to know anyone that has anything to do with this man, his writings and his life's lesson.
