5.0 out of 5 stars This one's a keeper., May 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sentenced to Servitude (Paperback)
This is one of those books that you want to read over and over again. It is well written, has a coherent, interesting plot, and excites the reader with scenes written from the point of view of both the trainer and trainee in sexual submission. If I could keep only one book in my collection, this would be it!

5.0 out of 5 stars PAIN BEYOND IMAGINATION, August 25, 1998
This review is from: Sentenced to Servitude (Paperback)
Theme of this book is not to piss off a man that has a desire for you. Just let him know very sweetly and firmly that you are not interested because you never know when the man of your nightmares will be a reality. This book was about a debutante Caroline who spurned the attention of a Mr. Rothberg. Mr Rothberg took offense to her handling of the situation and decided to take matters into his own hands when approached with a way to save face. Catherine was kidnapped and taken to a place where pain is spelled C-O-N-T-I-N-O-U-S. She was raised to be a lady, but trained to be a slave in the most painful way. In the end when she finds out who owns her horror and shame are beyoond her belief.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic of the Genre, February 2, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sentenced to Servitude (Paperback)
God Bless Amazon (and the internet in general!) for making it possible to track down and purchase obscure stuff. I first read this book back in the 1970's & it always 'stuck with me' - even if my copy of it didn't! There seems to be some info that this 'story' has been around for a while and has been creditted to different authors at various times - it was also released under the title of "The Captive" which I note is apparently scarcer to find (and subsequently WAY more expensive) but the content is the same as "Sentenced To Servitude". This is a pretty straight ahead BDSM tale in the 'classic' tradition of the Victorian storyline of the 'haughty' un-obtainable girl who is 'bent' to the will & sexual obsessions of a nobleman. The time-frame for the story is updated a bit (tho still nebulous) but the plot is 'timeless'... to wit: A wealthy English lord is enraged when his advances towards a beautiful young debutante are rebuffed. As he discusses this situation with a friend he is overheard by a woman who is involved in the white slave trade and she promises him that she can have the object of his lustful affections, kidnapped, trained to be an obedient sex slave, and delivered to him for his pleasure. A great sex fantasy premise, to be sure! - and the bulk of the narrative describes this process in titillating detail. Ultimately what makes this book succeed (in addition to the fact that it's pretty well written!) is the demeanor of the characters - especially the suffering 'heroine' of the tale. Although, I noted, the synopsis on the book jacket stated that the 'heroine' ultimately discovers a 'love' for her bondage and her new 'master' (a la "The Story of O") - in FACT, she does not! Actually, she is a continuously protesting and beleaguered personage throughout the book - ostensibly 'hating' what is happening to her and it is this 'non-consensual' stance that makes the book work so well as an example of the genre. If one wished to take a high moral position on this book it is, of course, totally misogynistic & prurient, but this isn't intended to be 'great literature' - it is intended to be a niche market sex book and, as such, it is one of the best reads out there for those who like this sort of kinky SM action. Pretty much non- stop sexual abuse, and decent writing, make it 'a keeper'!
