Product Description

Best selling jazz pianist, Beegie Adair, salutes the Greatest Generation with jazz trio renditions of World War II classics.

About the Artist

Born in Cave City, Kentucky, a small farming community of 1,400 residents, Beegie Adair (say B-G) grew up avidly listening to music. At age four she started the "two-finger-hunt-and-peck" system on the piano, but began actual lessons when she was five and continued studying piano through college at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education. During college, she played jazz professionally every weekend. She taught music to children in the Kentucky school system for three years, but spent her summers working in Nashville. The first summer she joined the Hank Garland Quartet, "and my education continued. Hank was a jazz guitarist that many other guitarists looked up to," Beegie comments. Arriving in Nashville during the heyday of Country music allowed her the opportunity to accompany such legendary performers as Chet Atkins, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton. Because Nashville was a hot bed of musical television tapings and live performances during that time, Adair also worked with such entertainers as Neil Diamond, Mama Cass Elliott, and Peggy Lee in her position as in-house pianist for The Johnny Cash Show for ABC-TV plus other television programs featuring Lucille Ball, Carol Burnette, and Dinah Shore. She currently records exclusively for the Village Square label, (www.villagesquare.com), and performs around the country with her trio as well as a weekly gig in Nashville at F. Scott's lounge.

For those who don't know her, Beegie Adair has made the best albums ever created, in a class of music that used to be called "cocktail piano". Unlike the great jazz pianists that require close attention while listening (Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Hampton Hawes, etc), she makes music that's quiet and relaxing, but with much more class and intelligence than Muzak, elevator music, or schlocky pop-cover instrumentals. It's the perfect background music for working at a computer, making or having drinks or dinner, or talking with friends. If you'd like some of that in your collection, she's as good as you'll ever find. "I'll Take Romance" is the album I would recommend most highly; this would be a good second, if you try that and want more.

This is the best. It's so pleasing to listen to. I had heard it twice before I purchased it and remember thinking what cheerful, uplifting music it is. It lifts my mood each time I play it. Someone mentioned that it was good dinner music, I would whole heartedly agree. In fact, I am online now to buy one for my sister for her birthday. She is an artist, she wants to have this on while she works.

"I'll take romance" and "Sentimental Journey" by Beegie Adair and the Jeff Steinberg Orchestra are both so truely so beautiful that I cannot possibly describe them as they deserve to be described. I received a CD titled "Christmas by Candlelight" featuring Denis Solee with The Jeff Steinberg Orchestra and fell in love with it. When Christmas was over, I could not bear to think of putting it away for almost an entire year, so I started searching for other music featuring them. Along the way, I discovered Beegie Adair (a magnificant & talented pianist who has been looked on with high esteem in the music world for years, but I had never heard of her) I first ordered "I'll Take Romance" and two minutes into the music I was listening to, I was here on Amazon.com, ordering "Sentimental Journey" I could go on and on about the pleasure of this truely relaxing and beautiful music, but I won't..I will simply say, that if you love beautiful, soothing, romantic music..it just get any better than this!

As a singer, I'm always looking for new (or old) material and in this wonderful CD, Sentimental Journey, by the incomparable Miss Beegie Adair, I've found fabulous new presentations of matchless WW2 songs. There are 12 songs on this CD and I've taken 6 of them for my own interpretation. These are the nostalgic songs that our parents danced and romanced to in the 40's and they're just as beautiful today. Beegie brings them to life again, not that they ever went away, but to listen to her brilliant playing of I'm Getting Sentimental Over You; Sentimental Journey; It's been a Long,Long Time; You'll Never know and I'll Be Seeing You is a very moving experience. Long live Brilliant Beegie !!

I've been looking for relaxing music to use for every day, romantic moments, and when we have company. This translates to all those moments. It doesn't get loud and obnoxious like other jazz or it's not too soft for every day use. I'm even considering the use of this CD as background music for a wedding cocktail hour. It's versatile, it's fun, it's romantic. And it's all on one CD.
