One of the Best...........................,

This review is from: Sentimental Journey (Audio CD)
One of the best singers of our lifetime who continues to prove that she's still at the top of her form is Rosemary Clooney. She makes any song sound beautiful by putting her heart and soul into the lyrics. It's always a pleasure to listen to her voice, it's so relaxing and soothing. This has got to be one of her best CD collections of songs in her many years of recording with the Concord label. I've collected all of her music over the years, and feel this is an instant classic. My all time favorite album is "Demi-Centennial". No one can sing these songs like Rosemary. Of course, my favorite song on this new CD is "Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe". Only one other performer sings it as beautiful as Rosemary and that's the one and only Judy Garland. Oh, what a fantasy and dream come true it would be if Rosemary & Judy could have done a duet of this song together when Judy was still with us. And Rosemary sounds terrific on "They Can't Take That Away From Me." These big band arrangements with Big Kahuna are a return to the styling Rosemary's so well known for. Enjoy these wonderful songs by Rosemary. I know I did.

AT THE TOP OF HER FORM !,

No, Rosemary Clooney can not hold extended notes as long or as well as she could in the 1950's. Time has caught up with this great, great "big band singer." And all I can say is: she's even better than she was! Every lyric in every song is given its due; here is a woman who has lived enough lives for 10 other mere mortals. She has lost none of her warmth, her joy of singing, her intelligence, or her taste. She is at the top of her form and for me that's cause to rejoice. After all, there's another terrific CD that Rosie has recorded and that we can play to bring us sheer happiness. She is a national treasure and in the words of one of the songs on this CD: "In this world of over-rated pleasures and under-rated treasures, I'm glad there is you." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

ROSIE WILL DEFINITELY BE MISSED,

Like all other Rosemary Clooney fans, I was deeply saddened over the weekend when I put the radio on & one of the headline news stories mentioned her passing after a battle with lung cancer. I feel as if I've lost a good friend & now I find myself pulling out just about all of her albums(due in part to the fact that there is no longer any NY radio station that plays American Popular Standards). Hopefully sometime in the near future we will see more collections(especially boxed sets)of even more of Rosie's wonderful music. Let's not forget come Christmas time to watch the classic film White Christmas-it will have even more meaning this year. Rest In Peace, old friend, I am sure you are having a blast up there with your sister Betty, as well as dear friends like Bing, Frank, Dean, Perry & many others of their ilk. Heaven must have one helluva chorus, especially with the addition of latest member, Rosemary Clooney. This music MUST be collected & preserved, so whether you've been a fan for many years or just discovering Rosie's music, at least you can take heart in knowing there is a huge treasure trove of music to choose from. Very highly recommended!

I thought that Rosemary Clooney, by this time, would be heading into the twilight of her career where future CD's would be embarrassing more than anything else. Boy, was I wrong. I have to say without hesitation this is one of Ms. Clooney's finest. There are an impressive number of really ejoyable tracks.Part of the credit goes to her backup band, Big Kahuna and the Copa Cat Pack. They give this lady a renewed zest and vitality which is very palpable. My one hope is that we will see some more CD's with Rosemary Clooney and her band before she does head into the twilight, whatever decade that may be..

Big Surprise,

There it was on the rack at my local record store - the CD with Rosemary Clooney and Big Kahuna and the Copa Rat Pack. I looked at the cover and said to myself "Now that has got to be one awful embarassment" but I picked up the headphones and much to my surprise it sounded like a very good recording of big band standards with a "girl" (albeit aging) singer. I actually bought it, and I'm really surprised. It shouldn't be a surprise to me that Rosemary Clooney can sing - it is a surprise that she still can. Not only is her voice strong and (mostly) unwavering, she's a great interpreter. The band is an even bigger surprise - despite the goofy name - these guys can play straight ahead swing with authority and polish. I am a "fan" of this type of music when well performed; I play saxophone in a band that practices big band swing charts once a week. I've heard most of the famous big band recordings, although not as much vocal except for the obvious big names. One unfortunate consequence of this much exposure to music of this genre is that it can get boring at times. The biggest surprise to me of all of this album is that Ms. Clooney manages to sing these songs in a straight ahead style with straight ahead arrangements, and even though I've heard some of them hundreds of times they still sound fresh. I never heard of Matt Catingub before, but the guy is a very talented arranger too. Rosemary Clooney isn't young, she isn't 90 lbs., and she probably isn't really blonde, but she is the real thing when it comes to big band singing.

Possibly the best of the Clooney/Concord efforts,

If you are a fan of big bands and great vocalists, DO NOT miss this one. Ms Clooney's voice is crisp and clear and the Copa Cat Pack swings. I rank this one right up there with "For The Duration."

This is yet another outstanding CD by the great Rosemary Clooney! Her voice, smooth as silk, takes us on a journey back in time to the world of big bands and girl singers. Among the best tracks on this collection are AND THE ANGELS SING, HAPPINESS IS JUST A THING CALLED JOE, and, of course, the title track. Her talent is amazing and I certainly miss her! This is a must for any Rosemary Clooney fan!

We miss you dear Rosie!,

Like so many of her fans, the passing of this legendary vocalist hit me very hard. I was listening to the bulk of this CD at work and realized what a great talent Rosie truly was. In this Grammy-nominated effort, she demonstrated her magnificent way with a lyric, and the song selection (backed by Matt Catingub's solid Big Kahuna band) was first-rate. Loved the duet with Matt on "Ya Got Class!!!" Ms. Clooney knew the intent of a song and was musically true to each composer's work, in her own fashion. Sadly, there aren't many of the great interpreters of classic pop singing - Tony Bennett, Steve and Eydie, Robert Goulet, and so on - left.

She Makes It Sound So Easy,
By
This review is from: Sentimental Journey (Audio CD)
This has to be one of Rosemary's very best. She glides through a collection of standards and sounds so relaxed. She makes you think singing ain't hard at all. I especially like "You Go To My Head". The Big Kahuna Band does right by her. I hope this is a big seller for her. It deserves it.

She Still Has It!,

This is Rosie at her best! She can still belt out a song at seventy three as powerfully as when she was young.Ageism has not worked against her;for which we are all very fortunate. The sixteen tracks on this disc are all old favorites, and her renditions of the classics are as smooth as always. Her back up big band, the Copa Cat Pack, with Big Kahuna, are a perfect blend of the new with the established. She is still a ten on any rating scale.I hope this album is a great success for her.
