The Brown Dots
"For Sentimental Reasons" (Flyright Records) ----------------------------------------- This groovy vocal group was founded by Deek Watson, an original member of the legendary Ink Spots vocal group who went his own way during WWII. Not surprisingly, the similarly-named Brown Dots sounded an awful lot like the first band, including rich harmonies and some of the old-fashioned vaudeville-type songs that Watson preferred. But there was also a newfound boogie and bounce to some of the songs, and in some ways the Dots presaged the doo-wop sound that would take root in the late 1940s and '50s. Fans of classic vocal harmony bands will want to check these guys out! (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Music Guide) |
