Viva Chavela!, January 15, 2000

Although I come from and live in Greece, Chavela Vargas- this great cancion ranchera Mexican singer- speaks straight to my heart and to my senses. You can never have enough of her CDs, each one has something special to offer. In this one, my favorite is the "Cruz de Olvido" that has great lyrics and Chavela sings it in a unique way. The "En el Ultimo Trago" is beautiful, but still, I prefer it in the way she sung it in Almodovar's CD. I've heard that Chavela Vargas had a serious problem with alcohol that obliged her to stop singing for many years. I'm so happy she managed to start all over again and I only wish they can give her a proper promotion cause her music must be heard all over the world.
