Just when I think I'm running out of pink stuff to buy, something comes along that, well, I just have to have. I was thinking about getting a fire box for a while and like magic, this lovely pink box was listed on Amazon. It's a nice medium shade of pink - not too bright, sort of a bubblegum pink. The price can't be beat. First let me say I have not tested the fire safety yet (thank goodness) so I'm not sure how it would do in a fire. The outside is plastic so I'd think the shell might melt but I don't know - and hope to never need to know. The recommendation is to store it upright not laying down on it's size - like pictured. One small detail to remember but they tell you that in the instructions. The lock isn't bad - I feel like it could be a bit sturdier. I don't know how to pick a lock or if the lock can be picked if you lose the key but I'm sure a locksmith could get into it if necessary. The hinge has a bit if give but it's supposed to according to the instructions.
It's decent sized - plenty of space for my passport, birth certificate, social security card, and a few other things. It's not huge by any standards. I'd say you could comfortably fit two reams of paper in it (1000 sheets of copy paper). You can definitely fit your important papers, cash, credit cards and some jewels in there. I only have stuff for one person inside but there is plenty more room for more. One word of caution - this thing is HEAVY. Perhaps I'm a weakling, but I find this box to be very heavy. I assume that's the fire proofing but once you load it up, it gets even heavier. My only complaint is the weight but it's not that big of a deal. I have mine on the first floor in the coat closet by the front door - so if there's a fire it can be one of the last things I grab in case of an emergency. Having a fire box gives me peace of mind that everything is contained and it's a huge bonus that it's pink.
