Awesome Cheap Earbuds, November 13, 2011
This review is from: Sentry HO489 Metalix Silicon Ear Buds (Silver) (Electronics)
Available for $5 or less (plus shipping, possibly), these 4-star earbuds rate at 5 stars due to price and value. I bought a silver set not expecting much, since I already have a countless number of headphones and earbuds accumulated over the years. Most I tried out a couple of times and will never use again. Not these. All other considerations aside... such as name-brand, what your brother-in-law or neighbor tells you about headphones, etc. ...the sound quality, clarity, bass and oomph are amazing. These phones have a bright sound with strong bass below. Comfort level is good, and these all-metal buds are light as a feather. But my main consideration in evaluating any audio device is the sound quality, and these Sentry earbuds bring it.
Depending on the sound I want while listening to phones while inactive, either these or my Sony MDR-V6 headphones (look those up if you like, they're incredible, but not inexpensive like these, and much bigger and clunkier) go in/on my ears. Please note that I said 'inactive', because this *style* of earbud (not this particular set) makes for thumping in the ears with body movement, such as running or walking (just move the cord around and you will know); I use a classic set of Sony 'bass reflex' earbuds, that are my wonderful workhorses, for when I'm active, but the Sentry set sounds better even than those Sony buds.
The last note is that again, these headphones are not well-suited for active use, in my experience. The housing on one of the buds came apart rather easily once, but how bad was that? Minor, a couple of super-glue drops fixed that easily and immediately. Based on sound quality, price, and value... highly recommended.
