I used the codes provided, the manual program, and the auto program and none of them worked on any TV.

If you have a DVD recorder or ATSC tuner box you're just out of luck.

If you have a TV, VCR or DVD chances are really good it's supported. If it's a combo unit your chances drop to about half, DVD/VCR combo is maybe 20% when programmed separately. Fair chances that it will control your cable TV or satellite box. If you have a DVD recorder or ATSC tuner box you're just out of luck. I have yet to get it to work with my A/V receiver in spite of it being an advertised feature.

I got mine on sale for eight bucks and wouldn't pay a penny more. They're a gimmick, a toy, nothing truly useful. 3 stars because it's useful as far as it goes, the "8 device" claim is a flat out lie though it's 5.

Background (you can skip): I received this for Christmas as a gag gift from a friend. She thought it looked hilarious, and she said I could just throw it away because it was so cheap. I proved her wrong by using it for about a year before I got a more complicated Cable box (one with the DVR), that this remote couldn't handle.

PROS -
1. It's obviously impossible to lose, given the largeness of it. The buttons, although not lighted, are easy enough to see in little light, and you get used to it being so large.

1. Works like any other remote, just read the pamphlet carefully. Both my TV and DVD player were listed (Sony Bravia TV with a Phillips DivX DVD player), so I just easily programmed the remote to my TV and DVD player and away I went. Also, given it's size, it's impossible to lose. It works like any other remote, and you can throw it around as such (why you would want to throw something so large is beyond me, but to each his own).

2. Buttons are intuitive, and although some of them didn't 'map' properly to my TV (for example, the "SOURCE" button on my TV was the "TV/VCR" button on the remove, it still worked fine, you just have to be sure to sit down with a few minutes to spare in order to get all of the buttons down.

3. Although this was given to me as a gag gift, it is actually a great conversation starter and a party piece. Everyone wants to try the stupid remote, hold it, throw it to other people, ask me where the VOLUME UP button is (squinting stupidly at the remote the whole time).

CONS -
1. Most universal remotes have a back-light. This one, since it is obviously so large, does not have such a thing. The letters on the buttons are such a brilliant white, however, that it more than makes up for it.

I received this remote for Christmas and can't complain. Sure, it's a little cumbersome that I have to select VCR or DVD to use the respective functions on my combo unit, but other than that, works fine, including all the special menus on my Toshiba big screen TV. Only problem now is that I have already lost the code book and, judging by what I'm seeing on the net, most everyone else has too and can't get another one from the manufacturer. Don't lose yours!

My 88 year old Father is blind and cannot manage the cable remotes. A couple of years ago I purchased a Jumbo Remote Control from Brooksstone and he did great with the remote. But after a year or so, things started going down hill and the remote was working less and less. So recently I bought him a Sentry Jumbo Remote Control. Alas, the Sentry Remote cannot be programed....PERIOD...... If anyone can program or give me tips on programing this product, please contact me.

I use it for the TV in the kitchen. It works pretty well and its hard to get lost. Only problem is that once in a while it will randomly lose the code so I have to go search for the manual to reprogram it.

About once a year I have to take it apart and clean the insides with alcohol because grease and grime get down into circuit board and buttons stop working. A bit of a hassle but its easy to take apart and it works like new afterward.

Bad product, it is not 1 x 8 (one control replaces to 8 remote controls).
From 6 home devices at home only recognized two.
