4.0 out of 5 stars A review NOT from a seller
The other review is so obviously someone from SENTRY that I thought I'd add my two cents. My house hasn't burned down so I don't know if this works, but I've read other articles that say it does. It is heavy (since the foam contains water to evaporate and dissipate heat in a fire), and there is no rubber grips on the bottom, so it can slide around a lot. It's a lot...

2.0 out of 5 stars It may be fire proof but it's not drop proof!!!
I don't know if it's fire-safe (haven't had a fire) but it's certainly not drop proof. I moved last year. The safe was stacked on a box about two feet off the ground. My husband accidentally knocked it off the box and the safe fell open! Curious about wheter this was a fluke, I closed the safe, locked it and knock it off the box again. Same thing- it popped right...

I guess this safe is ok if you're going to put it on the first floor but don't expect your valuables to be safe if you put it on the second floor.

It's a lot cheaper and more convient than renting a safety deposit box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fireproof, not burglar proof, March 19, 2008
By

For the price, this product works great and meets fire protection requirements. Like the other reviewers mention, don't expect the lock to keep a determined burglar out. The lock is probably more to keep out nosy invited guests. I just leave the key in the keyhole.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a secure product, June 15, 2005

(REAL NAME)
I purchased this as a safe to lock things in, very inexpensive to say the least.

Be aware, you get what you pay for. I think it's important to understand that this unit is designed to protect against FIRES... it is NOT a safe.

I found this out one day when I picked it up to open and put something in, accidently dropped it, and it just opened up easily... If you own one, hold the handle, then lift the unit up lengthwise, then tap it on the floor with a slight force angled a little on the smaller/top side of the unit, it will open easily everytime... this scares me... also, every unit uses the same key...

So if you need to protect against fires, this is probably a good device, for security, buy something better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire safe chest, April 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SentrySafe 1100 1/2 Hour FIRE-SAFE Chest, 0.18 Cubic Feet, Dove Gray (Kitchen)
This is a very sturdy chest. I was not sure of the exact size since it listed at 0.18 Cubic feet. Since I received it I measured approximately 14w x 9 3/4h and 5 3/4 deep. Since the outer wall is 1 to 2 inches thick inside has smaller dimensions. But it is enough to hold many envelopes and a folder with 8x11 copy papers. I would recommend this if you need a place to keep special items or papers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fireproof maybe?!?! Safe...NO., July 4, 2010
This review is from: SentrySafe 1100 1/2 Hour FIRE-SAFE Chest, 0.18 Cubic Feet, Dove Gray (Kitchen)
A lot of reviews talk about popping open when they drop this product, You can open it with your bare hands by pushing the lid one way and the bottom the other way!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars works well for smaller items, I'm happy, November 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SentrySafe 1100 1/2 Hour FIRE-SAFE Chest, 0.18 Cubic Feet, Dove Gray (Kitchen)
I've had this Sentry safe for about 2 months now, so far no problems. Keepings anything froms perscription meds to passports, insurance papers, and a few more important pieces of paper work. I love the fact that it is light weight enough that if i were going to be traveling i could take it w/ me, in my rig or hotel room that type of thing. Grateful for the handle as well. Many reviews i read stated that when dropped the safe popped open. Hasn't happened w/ me & there were a couple of times (when husband pissed me off) when i dropped it or what felt like slinging it and it would drop hard, and nothing happened. Thought it would break something in the house, not the safe itself. So, my first little Sentry safe & I'm happy w/ my purchase. Now I'm thinking of getting a bigger one, I won't be able to throw it around though, guess i better be careful.

5.0 out of 5 stars SentrySafe 1100, January 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: SentrySafe 1100 1/2 Hour FIRE-SAFE Chest, 0.18 Cubic Feet, Dove Gray (Kitchen)
I purchased two SentrySafes as Christmas gifts. In our local stores they wanted $35.00 each and I was able to purchase the exact same item through Amazon.com for less than $20.00 each. I was very pleased with the service I received/prompt delivery and quite a savings. (This was my very first purchase ever made on a computer and I must say a pleasant experience.)

Parts of it seem kind of flimsy or cheap, and I obviously haven't tried to break into it or anything like that - but it's a good (compact) size and for the price, an excellent value.

As others have said, I suppose it's meant more for fire protection than it is for safety - but let's face it, even if it were a comparable model that's in the $100+ range, any good thief is going to pick it up, take it with them, and spend their sweet time cracking it open. Sometimes safes like these attract more attention and do more harm than good. I definitely wouldn't use a safe like this to keep your precious jewels or cash safe, but rather to store paper documents that are just slightly more important than others.
