The Bad:
Saw this on another website when looking for a portable gun safe.It works for a small frame revolver or a sub-compact auto. But that's it.Before you buy, measure and include the grip, most manufacturers only measure the slide on their autos. So if rely on what they say you might come up short.

The Good:
Seems to be built well. Large enough for my check book, camera, cell phone, wallet, and a small gps. My truck does not have a locking glove box or center console, so this works great.

Conclusion:
If it were 1 1/2 inch longer and 1 inch wider it work for most compact autos as a gun safe.

Ordered this auto-safe several months ago when I started jogging and parking my car in areas where people jog - which also happen to be areas where there are lots of car prowls . I don't like jogging with my keyring and watch and I didn't like leaving my wallet at home. When I returned to my car today after a very short 2-mile run I saw my driver-side door lock had been punched out. They tried to pull the auto-safe out but were unsuccessful - the cable is attached to the seat frame. It contained my wallet full of credit cards, cash, ID, etc., my full set of keys and my good watch. They did get away with my gym bag full of clean clothes but not the auto-safe! Well worth the money I paid for it.

I think a more realistic price would be at most around $30.

Internal Padding is lacking over two horizonal metal bars running across the bottom corners inside the unit. I added a layer of foam padding which further reduced the small interior volume.

The attachment method of the Retaining Cable to the Unit is not ideal.

This Unit will withstand the Punk "smash and grabber" with a rock, but not one with tools.

I just received the safe today and it is already installed in my car - and I'm loving it. The safe is build solid and I believe that it will do its job in deterring smash and grab thieves. This will NOT stop a professional thief nor will it stop someone that is determined to rip this from your car and has adequate time/tools to cut the cable.

I primarily purchased this safe to store my firearm when I go to areas where I cannot legally carry. The S&W M&P9c fits into the safe PERFECTLY.

Pros:
1. The safe is very sturdy and is all metal construction
2. The cable should be adequate to deter smash and grab thieves
3. The cable can attach to either the left or right side of the safe
4. Comes with a optional screw to bolt the safe to your vehicle
5. Has adequate storage space for my purposes (holds a GPS, Navi, MP3 player, and S&W M&P9c with room to spare)

Cons:
1. Has padding on the inside but there are two metal bars that are exposed on the bottom. Though they are smooth, I can see the bars potentially damaging the contents if they're banged around from rough/spirited driving.

Overall impression of this safe is that it is a great buy and I'm high considering purchasing another one for my trunk. I wish they had a larger version of this safe so that I can store a full-size pistol in there. I would not hesitate to recommend this safe to my friends.

I did not want to spend over $250 for a console gun vault so I ordered the Autosafe. This was a perfect fit to my truck's center console. It conceals and locks my subcompact pistol. Like I said it is a cheap alternative so I don't expect much once a thief breaks in to my truck. The safe is hard to open but with proper tools the security cable can be cut easily with a large wire cutter. Overall it is an excellent value for the money.

As a concealed carry weapons license holder, there are locations where carrying a weapon is illegal, unless you are a law enforcement officer (ie.: US Post Offices). With this safe, you can, temporarily, secure your pistol in your vehicle, while you do your business, and you will not have to worry about it getting into the wrong hands. (Please do not use this as a political platform, this is just a matter of fact.)

Have had this safe for about a year. This serves its purpose well as a temporary but secure storage compartment in a vehicle. It will hold a Springfield EMP 40 cal or 9mm, Taurus Millenium PT111, Kimber Ultra CDP II in 45 or 9mm, and Springfield XD40 / XD9 Subcompact. You may also be able to put an extra magazine in there for storage, depending on type of weapon. It will also hold an Ultrium LTO II or III tape with room to spare. You can easily hold a man's wallet and a full-size Garmin GPS without problems.

The tumbler/lock binds, and is annoying when you have the safe in a tucked away location in the car and you are trying open the safe. The lock binds only when you are trying to open it, not when you are trying to close it. The rubberized key is bulky on the keyring.

I do not find the two exposed horizontal bare metal "bars" along the bottom edge of the safe to be of any hindrance. I like the flexibility of the enclosed cable, and think the way it attaches to the safe was ingenious.

I would buy this safe again if I can get one with a good lock/tumbler. It's a good value for what you get.

I bought the Auto Safe about a month ago and I really like it. I travel a great deal and am paid in cash and checks. Since I'm on the road I can't always get to my bank. The auto safe is a good place to place cash or other valuables. I have permanantly mounted the auto safe in an inconspicuous place in my van. It can't be seen from the outside and if you're inside I'd have to tell you where it is for you to even notice. I highly recommend the auto safe for anyone looking to protect their GPS, Camera or Cash. The price is great too.

Nice small safe for RV or Auto it can be secured buy wire or bolted to a solid metal location this is what I did. It is hidden but easy to get at in my truck.
The key is the weak point driffent but it works. The key itself has a big rubber end and takes up too much room on a key ring so I removed the black rubber drilled a small hole to attach to my keyring. Note its as good as the mounting!!
Would I buy it for my outher car.

I bought this to provide a secure storage solution for my car. This is the perfect size and provides the right capabilities to mount in my trunk with the security cable and I don't have to worry about leaving valuable items in my car. The inside is padded and the lid is designed to prevent the removal of the security cable unless it is open. I highly recommend the SentrySafe Autosafe.
