Perfect Safe If You NEVER Want to Get Your Stuff Out!,
By
This review is from: SentrySafe DS5781 Safe 1-Hour Fireproof Electronic Safe, 2 Cubic Feet, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have 3 SentrySafes. Out of the 3, 2 of them WON'T OPEN ANYMORE! I have the key and the safe code. I enter the code, get the green light, and then move the lever down to open it. Except it's stuck!! It won't open. Okay, could it be a fluke? Maybe...but on 2 of my 3 SentrySafes I'm having the SAME EXACT PROBLEM?I will never purchase another SentrySafe again. Period! I have spend a considerable amount of money on my 3 safes just to have 2 that won't open anymore. I'm thinking of having my items removed from the one that is working for fear that one day that one will stop working as well. So, SentrySafe should have a motto: "So Safe That NO ONE Will EVER Be Able to Open It!" Kind of useless if even the OWNER of the safe can never get it open again... If you want to pop this kind of money for a safe, FIND ANOTHER BRAND. Please! It's too risky to store important and expensive items in your safe just to perhaps one day never again be able to have access to it again. *************** UPDATE: I went to open that 3rd safe (that WAS still working) to remove my items and it also WON'T OPEN ANYMORE. Now I have 3 Sentry brand safes that will no longer open. I had just put my passports into it just under two weeks ago and it was working fine. I changed the batteries...no avail. I'm not sure what I'm going to do because I have jewelry, passports, and other important documents in there. I will call Sentry on Monday. If they cannot get my safe open, I will try a locksmith. If he can't get it open then Sentry will be getting a hefty lawsuit filed against them so that I can recover the loss of my items inside. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...DON'T BUY ANY SENTRY ITEMS! You'll save yourself a lot of headache. Instead use a different brand that's more reliable. Make sure you do some research online before purchasing ANY safe product.

Horrible,

I've had this Sentry safe for about a year. It will not open. Found this website [...]. 90 people so far have submitted their horror stories with Sentry safes and their Customer Service. Shameful. The only way for us to get into our safe now (the cust service rep suggested whacking it with a rubber mallet - which did not work) is to destroy it and have a $[...] dor stop and no safe. Don't buy Sentry safes. My local safe repair man said it would cost over $200 to crack the safe and that they get calls every week with the same problem with Sentry safes.

Nice safe, but...,

This review is from: SentrySafe DS5781 Safe 1-Hour Fireproof Electronic Safe, 2 Cubic Feet, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
It's a very nice and roomy safe, except after about 1.5 years of use, it stopped jamming. Entering the code no longer unlocks the safe! Technical support is not helpful in suggesting what can we done about it, they assume it's the user error. It actually takes a lot of wrangling of the handle while entering re-entering digital key combos to get the safe open. It's unreliable - sometimes it opens fine, other times, the electronic lock shows the safe is unlocked but there is no unlocking sound and handle cannot be moved to open it. I cannot return it anymore, so I am using it for non-critical stuff that I dont't want stolen but also don't need it anytime soon. Look elsewhere, it's not worth the struggle, nerves, and frustrations - or at least don't expect the safe to always unlock reliably.

DO NOT BUY A SENTRY PRODUCT,
This review is from: SentrySafe DS5781 Safe 1-Hour Fireproof Electronic Safe, 2 Cubic Feet, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought a Sentry, 2 cubic feet, electronic safe 4 years ago. 2 months ago the door would not open. Changed to new batteries, code was correct, got a green light, but door wouldn't budge. Googled the problem, and I realized this type of problem is the rule rather than the exception. Ended up banging the door with a rubber mallet and it opened, a miracle you might think. But when I called Sentry customer service, that is exactly what they told me to do. Needless to say, I am putting nothing in there ever again, and taking it to the dump. Sentry wanted to sell me a lock repair kit for $50, but no guarantee of a repair. NO THANKS. Lame product. How can they continue to sell a bad product. DO YOUR RESEARCH before buying any safe.

I wish I've read reviews here before I purchased this safe from costco and it came with jammed door. I am glad I still can return it. After doing multiple searches and realizing what a stupid mistake I made, I was amazed that there were no instructions how to open safe if batteries ran out of charge... Yea... you are screwed! and can you imagine if you have to travel and you can't take your passport out???? Oh yea.. This is my first and last safe from SentrySafe. What kind of geniuses out there designing this safe? They should be fired!!!

Safe will not open,

Very frustrating to have a safe that stops working after a year (yes, I've tried new batteries, rubber hammers, and the other "solutions" recommended by the manufacturer). Do yourself a favor and Google "sentrysafe will not open" and you'll find a huge number of consumers with the same issue.

Same problem as everyone.....Within a year, safe will not open and sentry will not help. They recommend paying $$$ for a lock smith to drill open their product. This company should be out of business. I wonder what it takes to get a class action law suit. Any lawyers reading this?

This is a piece of crap. There are way too many things that are bad about this safe to list, but the overall quality is bad. DO NOT BUY A SENTRY SAFE.

I bought this safe and right away I started having problems. Although I would enter the proper combination and the indicator display showed that I had unlocked the safe, the safe would not open. It often took multiple attempts to get it to open. Now, after 3 years it will no longer open at all. The web is full of people reciting the exact same problem. These folks apparently are making a lot of faulty safes. DO NOT BUY this item. You will regret it.

Can no longer open after about 1 year.,
By Christine (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SentrySafe DS5781 Safe 1-Hour Fireproof Electronic Safe, 2 Cubic Feet, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I agree with the rest of the bad reviews on this safe. I am currently shopping for a new safe that does not use an electronic keypad to enter into the safe. We were getting ready to leave for a cruise and had to try about 30 times until we could finally get into the safe to get our passports out! We would have lost over $3000 on the cruise if we were not able to get our passports out of the safe that morning since we would not be able to board the ship. We have had problems with it not being able to close easily as well. We had to leave it unlocked while we went on the cruise since we didn't want to have our stuff stuck in the safe if we were not able to get it open again. While shopping for a new safe I came across all of these other reviews and was surprised that this is a common problem with this safe. This safe is worthless to us now! My advice would be to not purchase a safe that utilizes an electronic keypad...
