Yes, one could argue that this is more of a strong box than a safe. That being said, the unit is very sturdy and has the best build quality of anything that I've seen at this price point. The other safes I checked out looked at lot flimsier.

Sentry says that this is a 5 gun (rifle) case. However, if you happen to have larger scopes attached to your riles, that capacity is almost halved. In my case, it stores 3 scoped rifles nicely.

Shelf is also a tad too low for my 24" barreled rifle. This was solved with a quick modification. I hot glued 9" x 1.5" wood strips just above each of the original shelf rails. This gives me the increased shelf height and allows me to slide the shelf all the way to the back of the safe. Perfect!

I read all the other reviews before buying this and decided to take the chance and go for it. I wouldn't call this a gun SAFE, but rather a well-built gun CABINET.

I'll be using this to hold a scoped rifle, a shotgun, and ammo for both as well as my handgun ammo. The space will be more than adequate for this and probably hold another rifle/shotgun or two more.

It is true that it's on the small side: 4'7" ft. tall and 1 foot square. The one and only shelf is quite small, but adding another is no big deal. It has a keyed lock which I actually prefer to a combination.

While other reviewers said theirs arrived in less than perfect condition, mine was great (delivered by FedEx - if that makes a difference). The box showed some wear, but the cabinet was fine. To those who said it was flimsily built, I beg to differ. I found it actually to be BETTER built than I anticipated from these reviews, and feel it is more than adequate - once secured to the floor and/or wall, to keep anyone out.

Again, this is NOT a safe; it is a sturdy CABINET with safe-style bolts on a key lock. If you are looking for something fireproof, this won't do it. If, however, you want a low-cost way to safely secure your firearms, this will work nicely.

I didn't want to spend $1,000+ on an elaborate, huge gun safe; I wanted something affordable and secure. This is it. Recommended.

I ordered this gun safe specifically for my bed room closet, so I could have my carry guns close at hand as well as a couple of my "personal defense" shotguns too, which up to now, are kept in a "fire proof", gun safe in my garage. I received the safe quickly, and it was not damaged. I also have a "Stack-On" drawer safe that holds two guns with a electronic combination lock and lifts up to open, that up to now, I kept in my bedside table. I attached this safe to the top of the Sentry gun safe, which I might add, was a perfect fit, and installed both in my closet, just inside the door. When I lock up this gun safe, I simply put the key to it in the drawer safe bolted on top and everything is secured, but yet I can have a gun in my hand in a matter of seconds and not have to worrying about loading first, or removing trigger locks. I am very well satisfied with this gun safe, especially considering the price I paid for it compared to others, and finding one that fits in the closet underneath the rod that you hang your clothes on too which is very hard to do. Yes, it is not fire proof, but I didn't buy it for this reason, I bought it for having my guns locked up to make it hard for someone to get to, should there be a break in and I'm not at home, but yet easily accessible to me when needed. It's secured both to the wall and floor with lag bolts, so it's there for the long term. As I stated before, I feel that for the amount of money I spent, I received a quality product, I feel that it's made solid enough to make it hard for anyone to try and get into it without a lot of effort. I definitely recommend this gun safe it you're looking for one for the same reason I was, or if you just have a few guns that you want to keep in a safe place, locked up away from kids, etc.

Robbers broke in to my sentry safe, and treated it like a plastic toy. A pry bar is all that is necessary to open this safe.

I do not recommend this safe if you want to protect what's inside from robbers. However, if you want to keep certain items away from toddlers, this is the item for you!

It's true that this safe is NOT a fireproof/waterproof safe, and does NOT come with mounting bolts that are worth a dime. However, it is strong, has passed the CA DOJ testing, and when mounted to the ground, AND back wall in a closet space (preferably in a corner so there is only two sided access rather than three sided) you can't go wrong for the price!

It is good, and will definitely buy enough time for typical burgalars to give up, or get caught trying to get in, while house/apartment alarm is going off!

It's definitely better than nothing for providing a small armory w/ a safe solution at a good price. The next step up would be a fireproof safe, or something a little larger for more guns, as there is NO sense in spending an extra $100-$200 dollars more for a solution that does NOT change the CA DOJ or ANSI break-in rating of the safe.

I wouldn't say this is a safe. A safe might thwart a burglar. This might slow him down if your lucky, or make him make a lot of noise. I would say it's about 50% sturdier than a high school locker. It will certainly go a long way toward keeping kids out of your guns, or making your wife happier that there aren't loose guns just floating around the house.

The construction quality is adequate. The screws supplied are pretty wimpy, but I used them anyway. I intend to put some motion-detecting battery-powered stick-on lights inside so I can see what I'm doing, even if the power is out. the bottom 2/3 is covered in gray carpet, which gives off a funky chemical smell. I leave the door open with a fan blowing into the safe from the floor to air it out, but it still smells bad after a month. I burned some incense inside it, so now it smells like a delightful combination of incense and funky chemicals.

I would say maybe 3 long guns would fit comfortably inside. You would have to really stuff them in if you wanted to fit 5. The key is pretty large and heavy. I usually carry mine on a keychain all day, which I am rethinking due to the size of the key.

As others have said, it will probably arrive damaged to some degree. Mine was only damaged cosmetically - a little paint chipped here and there - so I decided not to go through the hassle and dice-rolling of returning it and getting a new one. It is 100% functional, so I'm not that worried.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this product but not thrilled. I'll give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Reading some of the other reviews I was prepared to have a flimsy metal cabinet arrive that locked. But the second I picked up the box from the UPS driver I knew it was more substantial then that. It has a solid construction and is better then some of those other cheap "Gun Safes" you can buy (We we all know are really just "Gun Cabinets").

It really does hold 5 long guns! The shelf is located away from the back wall so your long barrels will actually stick up past the shelf just fine. I'm sure this is not fire or water proof, but it will keep people away from your firearms. I think it would put up a good fight for a burglar if you bolt it to the floor and wall.

The Bad: It's pretty large for shipping, and I had some nicks in the paint on the corners from handling. And my door was not attached at one hing, but that just took a second to pop back in. All in all, it's nice to have a safe place for my firearms and it looks nice in the back of a closet.

Do the world a favor, and make sure you lock up ALL your guns. Buy this now if you're someone that has guns sitting under your bed... you'll feel better and it's the right thing to do. I paid $150 for this safe here on Amazon with free shipping. For that price, you just can't go wrong.

This is an entry level gun safe, but it is poorly manufactured. The door does not close properly as it is out of plumb. The shelf is almost unusable because it just sits on two welded brakets. But it was indeed cheap.

I received my safe and was really happy at first. Then i really started checking it out and noticed many things I don't like.

1. Shipping.... There is some damage to the safe caused by poor packing. The top right rear corner has a small hole at the weld and the front has 2 paint chips.

2. Construction... The metal is a little thinner than I'd like. I'm confident you'll stop a thief who's in a hurry and a nosy kid. If the thief's a little more
patient, your guns will be gone.

3. Design... Here's where I'm most disappointed. The safe is door-heavy and will fall forward when you're trying to bolt it down. I had to prop it straight with the shelf while I was trying to secure it. There are 2 anchor points in the floor of the safe and 2 in the back, but only 2 bolts to anchor it with. Like I said, the metal is thin and you could rip this thing out with just the 2 bolts they give you. I made 4 more anchor points in the floor for a total of 6 and used washers to give a larger area for and pressure to distribute. It only took a few seconds to drill through the metal (kinda scary). The shelf is tiny. It's about 1/2 the depth of the safe and mounted midway into the safe so there's a big gap in the front and rear of it. Things can fall forward or back so don't put anything on it that you don't mind falling on your rifles. I am going to build a full shelf for it. The barrel rest is a piece of plastic that slips over a couple notches on the back of the safe. Only one of the notches is tall enough for a scoped rifle. The other 4 are pretty short. In the product description, it says plenty of room for your hunting rifles. The key there for me is "hunting rifles". If you have an ar15, get ready to pad the bottom with foam like I had to. My AR kept falling forward because of the angle of the collapsible stock. With the buttstock fully extended, my barrel makes it about 2" above the rest. My AK fits ok but it is a sporter model so I don't know how well a standard one would sit. Regular hunting rifles will fit fine but I'm not sure about having a scope on them.

Overall... It does the job but I can't really consider it a safe. More of an upgraded cabinet. I made due with it and am happier after doing some tweaking. I am not 100% happy and will upgrade to something else in the future but for now, it's enough.

UPDATE: I af filled my safe and I must say things are TIGHT in there. DEFINITELY not for tactical weapons setups. Any accessories that hang off the side of your weapons are going to get in the way of the gun next to it. I also recently added a Mosin Nagant to my collection and I have to leave the bolt open (space issue) and run the barrel behind the shelf in order to get it in. Dropping my rating from 3 to 2 based on how difficult it is to maneuver your weapons.

I ordered this gun "safe" because I needed a simple and affordable means of securing a rifle and a shotgun. As a new gun owner, I did not want to take the plunge into the more expensive, fire-proof, and heavily "armored" gun safes that are available on the market. At the same time, I wanted to be a responsible gun owner and be at ease in knowing that my firearms would be out of the reach of any visitors or opportunistic burglars.

The weight is perfect for one (reasonably healthy & fit) individual to lift and move (although would be much easier to do so with 2 people). Size is perfect for a bedroom closet. The steel on this 'safe' is much thicker and sturdier than what you find on the typical gun 'cabinets'. It is not thick & strong enough to make me believe that a determined person could not eventually find some way to gain entry. However, that is not the intent of this entry-level safe, as I am well aware. This safe is ideal for simply having one's firearms out of the easy reach of unwanted hands while being compact and light enough to store in a bedroom closet for easy access in the event of a home invasion.

The safe arrived on my doorstep about 9 days after I placed the order through Amazon. UPS delivered it to my front porch and left it there as I was not yet home. The exterior of the cardboard packaging had taken some abuse during transit. However, there was a foam cushion on both the top and bottom of the interior as well as a second cardboard insert around the entire body of the safe underneath the outer layer. Despite the wear and tear on the exterior cardboard packaging, there were no discernible dents or scratches on the gun safe once I removed it from the box and examined it.

The interior does appear to be designed to hold only 5 long guns, with the fixed rack designed for one of them to be a scoped long gun. The upper shelf is really a carpeted slat (so that it is like the letter H). That does mean you will not be able to use the space behind or in front of the shelf (as things will fall below) unless you first put something onto the shelf that spans the front and rear empty space (which is what I did in order to store ammo in that space).

Kudos to Amazon for the low price and the free & fast shipping. No regrets thus far for making this purchase.
