I originally purchased the Honeywell 0.6 Cubic Foot safe, but returned it because the locking mechanism was junk. The Sentry is more expensive, but much better constructed and looks nicer, too. Also, unlike the Honeywell, you don't need to use a key in addition to the combination lock when you open the safe. Just enter your combination and turn the latch. There is an emergency override key that only needs to be used if the batteries go dead. The safe is pre-drilled so it can be bolted from the bottom or back (or both). Due to its small size, this safe should definitely be bolted to something -- it would be way too easy for someone to carry off.

As mentioned in another review, it may sometimes be difficult to pull open the relatively heavy door because of the small & slippery surface area of the knob. I cut a couple of small pieces of velcro tape (the rougher of the two strips) and stuck them on the sides of the knob, which allows me to grip it much easier.

The original product description said there is a removable shelf, but there is no shelf, removable or otherwise. They appear to have revised their description, but I'm leaving this note in the review just in case it's still mentioned and I missed it.

This is a solid safe. The dual access gives a easily accessible yet secure entry method, as well as a backup in case the batteries die. I am a college student and this definitely does the trick. Its got a pretty heavy door which is probably thanks to the two deadlocks its got to prevent entry. you can screw it to something (though i would recommend stripping the screws to really secure it. you can always get something at home depot in case you need to move it) It is also just the perfect size; you can fit just about anything that needs to be kept safe in here. The only thing that could make this product better is providing a shelf, but im not complaining. This is a great safe. I recommend the purchase for anyone who is still shopping around.

I have peace of mind, now that I purchased this safe. It's just the right size to put prescription drugs in, or car keys, or jewelry, or money. I placed it on a shelf, inside a cabinet. It can be mounted to the shelf or through the back, but in my case, it wasn't necessary.

The safe is quality built. It works fine. It is very easy to change the combination.

If you want a safe that will give you peace of mind, and will not give you more stress due to malfunction, go with this one. It may cost a bit more, but it is well worth it.

I have 3 sentry safes and use this one for storing my revolvers.The key pad is great for quick entry and the key over-ride is a must with any electronic lock.You can fit about 3 standard size handgun boxes and 4 boxes of ammo.I was thinking of getting a bigger one but this size can be easily hidden somewhere out of sight.It is not a fire-proof safe and do not use it for anything paper you want to protect from a fire.It comes with some mounting screws and the combo key pad works great.I posted some pictures so you get an idea of the room it has.

I looked at alot of these Safes and decided on this one. It does bolt down both to a wall and the shelf, that is what I did. I wanted something secure and non-movable to store like check books, Social Security cards, passports, papers with PIN's and passwords, computer data on a memory stick and emergency cash in something that I could feel fairly confident that they would be unaccessable to someone else. This does that job very well indeed and seems well built. The combination is easy to change and two keys are provided for entry, if the batteries fail. It will hold standard 8 1/2" by 11" papers unfolded. I would not want to mount this on the floor though, it would seem to be difficult to bend down that low to unlock, I imagine.

Good value for the price. It is a pretty sturdy unit. The steel is heavy and strong but the unit is not
very heavy overall. It is also very attractive. Kind of blends in with my decor. Also for .5 cubic feet it
is quite roomy. Enough room for a stack of folders, papers, or a few items like video cameras,
cell phones, handguns, disk drives, etc.
This wont keep out a serious thief but will keep the honest people honest.
Comes with mounting hardware and could be mounted to the floor and wall to make removal
quite difficult.
I would purchase this item again and will consider other products from the same company.
It was delivered overnight and arrived in perfect condition.

The safe arrived promptly and in good condition. I inserted the batteries, checked the spare keys, programmed the combination and tested everything in about 20 min without difficulty. It took a little longer to fasten the safe to a concrete wall, but that was also straightforward. As noted by others, this is not designed to be a highly secure unit. It is not waterproof or fireproof. It is mainly designed to discourage children, guests or a casual thief from accessing the contents. It has now been about a month since I installed the safe, and it operates flawlessly once every day with no sign of the battery issues mentioned by others. The unit came with a plastic corner piece that keeps the door from slamming metal on metal. I recommend fastening this in place with a drop of epoxy so it doesn't fall off and get lost. I am pleased with the purchase and feel that I got my money's worth. I expect that I would buy another safe from the same company.

SentrySafe X055 0.5 cu ft. Nice & similar to the 0.7 cu ft model. If you are storing 8.5 x 11 documents and/or folders they won't lie flat, as the locking mechanism takes up a bit of space in front. You might be able to put a small table in to raise the material above the intruding mechanism, but of course that'll reduce the usable space.

Solid product, enough space, good locking mechanism, nice to be able to bolt it to the floor. At first, door wouldn't pop open after the combination was put in, until I filed a tiny ridge of dried enamel off one spot on the edge of the door. (The door closes very tightly). You could still open it with a good pull, but there's not much to grip on the knob you turn to open it.

I am very happy with this small safe. It is much heavier than I anticipated and very well constructed. The interior space is perfect for documents, jewelry or other small valuable items. Highly recommend for household use.
