Aron Rodrigue, a distinguished and dispassionate chronicler of Jewish history, relates the terrible fate that befell the majority of the Sephardi community at the hands of the Nazis in 1939-45. This utterly chilling commentary is marginally softened by the 'complex' conduct of pragmatic Bulgarians.
If the Afrika Corps had won the Battle of El Alamein, 50,000, at least, of my fellow Sephardim in Egypt would have been similarly rounded up and slaughtered.
