5.0 out of 5 stars Another incredible album from Jeff Larson . . . ., June 16, 2004

I keep waiting for the world to discover jeff larson. He's an amazing talent. Jeff is truly one of the most gifted singer/songwriter's of our time. It's rare when you can purchase a cd and like every song on the CD. Sepia, like Larson's other cd's, is an awesome cd from start to finish. My favorite songs are "Windblown Mind," "Cryin'," "Hazy Sunshine," and "Getting into Yesterday." When you hear his cd's, you find yourself saying "this song sort of reminds me of the Eagles" or on another song "the beach boys" another "America" or even James Taylor. With that said, Larson definitely has his own sound. It's his great melodies that makes your mind reflect upon a much better era of music (if we could turn back the clock to the 1970's when good music was played on the radio Larson would be a mega-star). Give this cd a TRUE try (listen to it several times) and I guarantee you'll be a fan of Jeff Larson. His voice, his music, his lyrics, his songs . . . . all of it will leave you very much impressed with this uniquely gifted artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Treat for all of Your Senses!, August 15, 2005

Hi ~ I have had my "Sepia" cd since it's release date back in March of 2004. I never grow tired of listening to this well blended, smooth flowing playlist of songs. I too feel that Jeff's songs are hidden gems, that I Hope will get the chance to shine brightly on the radio one day soon. He has such a Sincere way with lyrics, each song gives me such a clear visual of what Jeff was thinking and wanting to come across. I love his accoustic magic, his harmonies, the way his songs are accented with other musical artists magic too. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite song on this cd, I love all of them for their individuality. It is easy to see Jeff's admiration for Gerry Beckley's talents, on Gerry's song "Cryin" as well as Jeff Foskett's ,Hank Linderman's & Gary Griffin's, contributions to these songs too. I find these songs very refreshing and when you take a listen to them and read Jeff's liner notes on each song, you too will find this to be a well blended treat for all your senses and moods. Take care, Nancy Holtz :)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Larson's best releases, January 19, 2011

All of Jeff Larson's CDs are rewarding, but this one stands out a little above the rest for me because he shines on upbeat songs, and this CD has more of them than his other albums. An incredible vocalist, guitarist, always captivating composer, and poetic lyricist, the talented Larson has given us pretty much a flawless release this time around. Typically wonderful assistance from the usual gang of suspects, with Hank Lindenman's production and guitar work being stellar, as usual. Along with Larson, America, Christopher Cross, and Jeff Foskett, there is still some incredibly good melodic/harmonic pop music being created in the world, and that's something we should really be thankful for. What a sad world it would be without uplifting and gorgeous music like this.

If you like America, Eagles and Beach Boys, this is true California acoustic rock. Producer is Americas producer and both G. Beckley, and D. Bunnell sing backup vocals as well as J. Foskett (BB and B. Wilson band), T. Schmit, and others. Great acoustic sound, with excellent harmonies. His voice ranges from G. Frey to T. Schmit, so you get the idea this guy sings quite good. You'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 70's Soft/Folk/Country Rock Classic in the third millenium, September 7, 2006

Buy this CD and you will wear it out...go to the label website for some song samples and you will be amazed. VOCALS are the best along with great acoustic guitars, framed by excellent arrangements. Songs remind the listener of 70's Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, Poco, CSN, America, Beach Boys, etc. Not surprising that Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell of America are his friends and contributors. They have obviously been an influence on Jeff, especially Gerry. The Jeffrey Foskett (Beach Boys/Brian Wilson) connection is also there from a vocal harmony standpoint, as is the Eagle-esque production and engineering of Hank Linderman (former Eagles guitar tech). If you are a guitarist, Jeff's Taylor guitars and Elixir strings should mean something too. Linderman's bass and electric guitar work and guests handling organ, drums, bkg vocals, guitars make for work reminding the listener of the great 70's soft rock productions of Keith Olson (Buckingham Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Byrds, Joe Walsh, 38 Special), Bill Szymczyk (Eagles, Rhinestones, Joe Walsh, Jay Ferguson, Dan Fogelberg). These guys are obvious influences on Linderman's arranging and engineering chops. Buy this CD and you won't be disappointed. It's the best music you will never hear on the radio, unless it someday makes it to satellite radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is this rock music's best kept secret?, July 5, 2006
By

This review is from: Sepia (Audio CD)
Is Jeff Larson rock music's best kept secret? I think so, give this CD a listen and I'm sure you'll think the same. His earlier albums Watercolour Sky and Fragile Sunrise were terrific and if you like your music full of Californian sunshine then this latest and wonderfully melodic and well-produced album is just for you. It has harmonies to die for and is a beautifully crafted and uplifting piece of work. Larson wrote eleven out of the twelve tracks and is ably assisted on several tracks by his underrated New Surf stable-mate Jeff Foskett along with America's Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley. The guitar playing and backing vocals throughout are excellent, particularly Foskett's backing vocals. The highlight of the album for me though is the Beckley written and produced "Cryin'" which it is simply stunning in it's beauty. The instrumental "Suburban Lawns" is clever and well played, "Hazy Sunshine" has an instantly likeable sixties feel to it but it's the layer upon layer of vocal harmonies on all of the songs that are the real joy. Jeff Larson's music is so laid back and pleasant that you feel like you're sitting in a car driving along Ventura Highway with the top down. He has the voice of an angel; you could listen to it forever. Great songs sung by the best kept secret in rock music. Buy it, you won't regret it.
