A Life Changing Event written for children, August 5, 2004
This review is from: September 11, 2001: A Day in History (Paperback)
This book is beautifully written and wonderfully illustrated. It describes very factually, but sensitively and not alarmingly or in ways that are likely to trouble children, the events of September 11, 2001 and our country's response to them. The descriptions of the events, people's reactions, the heroism of the firemen and policemen, and the leadership shown by our country's and New York City's leaders, are all explained simply but elegantly. The book clearly identifies and distinguishes between the evil of the perpetrators and the goodness and strength of both ordinary people and public figures alike. Equally as important, the book is filled with soft, pastel illustrations that give it an almost ethereal quality. This is a book that parents can read to or with their children and that teachers can use as a non-threatening introduction to a day that is likely to define the lives of several generations of Americans.
