I am listening to this CD as I type my review. I love this CD. It has an entire spectrum of music. The upbeat Mama Don't Know,Dancing in The Streets.("You can't sit still when the music is playing"), to the love songs like Shelter of Your Arms,Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" simply beautiful!..Try it w/headphones,fabulous voice on this man. GREAT MUSIC NEIL...THANKS

Another Great One From Neil,
By Ron (Brooklyn, NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: September Morn (Audio CD)
Yet another wonderful album from Neil, with perfect production quality, as usual. It's remarkable how all of his albums, for the most part, sound like they were recorded yesterday. The major songs to come off of this one are September Morn, That Kind, and The Good Lord Loves You. The price is right, too. If you're a Neil fan, you've got to add this one to your collection. If you're trying to get into Neil, this would not be the one to start off with, however. I would recommend his new 12 Songs or perhaps Tennessee Moon for that purpose.

September Bore,
By A Customer
This review is from: September Morn (Audio CD)
A truly disappointing effort from a talented man who had run out of things to say by the late 70's. His rendition of "Dancing In The Street" is horrifying. Luckily some of the old magic returned on his next release, "The Jazz Singer"

worth it for "Mama Don't Know" alone,
By 10 Dollar Dreamer (Boston) - See all my reviews

September Morn has many covers, but the best are the few originals."Mama Dont Know" has an intoxicating techno beat and bassline, and Neil doing his "Brother Love" preacher thing.Love the big "Heal Me,Make Me Holy" chorus.A great song.
"That Kind" is also a great song-a very pretty old-hollywood tale.Kind of like a low key "Candle in the Wind". the jazzy remake of "I'm A Believer" is well, interesting. the only covers I like are "The Sun Aint Gonna Shine Anymore"(amazing how melancholy and big-sounding Neil turned this little oldie) and "The Good Lord Loves You" (a strong cry for tolerance and peace instead of war). September Morn is uneven though-why cover "Dancing in the Street" in 1979?Just sounds lightweight and weak.I always skip the title cut.And the "Stagger Lee" cover is a weak way to end this album.

Schmaltzy Snooze Songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: September Morn (Audio CD)
This is Neil once again crooning unbearably schmaltzy stuff that puts me to sleep in an instant. Neil had long ago slid into the comfortable adult-easy-listening-contempary category and thereby ceased to make any interesting and/or exciting music. Go back and listen to "Cracklin' Rosie" and then put this on, and you'll get an idea of what I mean. For lovers of "sap" only.

Not his best work,

This review is from: September Morn (Audio Cassette)
September Morn was released in 1980 and went to #10 on the US Billboard Album 200 charts. The cassette went Platinum. Only two singles made it to the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart: September Morn' #17 and The Good Lord Loves You #67. I know he wrote the song for the Monkees; but his version of I'm A Believer is not the good at all. I belong with most on this; if it isn't broke then why fix it. Even with Stagger Lee and Dancing In The Street, Neil Diamond renditions are not that great. Overall I did not think it was that great. This is a C- at best.

Better than a sleeping pill,

The greatest mystery in the world: How can a singer with such a beautiful voice and such an enormous talent like Neil Diamond become such a boring schmaltzy? Stick to the 60's and early 70's stuff, you can't do wrong there.

Neil could do better,

"September Morn" is perhaps one of Neil Diamond's few low points in his storybook career. There are a few high points here: The sad, yet sentimental title track, the jazzy, euphoric "Jazz Time" and the downbeat "The Good Lord Loves You". I didn't care for Neil's own version of "I'm A Believer", a song that was really made to be an up-tempo number, as the Monkees' version was. "Stagger Lee" just wasn't cut out to be an easy listening tune. But, if you are a true Diamond fan, you'll want to add this CD to your collection.
