When I first heard the shrieky vocals (which start almost as soon as the song does) I thought, great - it's another one of those numetal-core trend jumping bands whose CDs will litter clearance bins and pawn shops in the very near future. The conclusion I jumped to in this instance was of Olympic medal winning caliber. While the vocals are indeed of the post-hardcore/metal-core variety, that is pretty much where the comparisons end. Blending sub-genres seems to be here to stay, and you are certainly getting a nice blend here. The most predominant sub-genre represented here is probably thrash, with hard-core a close second (mostly because of the vocals). Also blended in, albeit more as a seasoning than an ingredient, are doom, death, groove, and even of bit of that jazzy-proggy stuff. If you like bands like DEP, Converge, and Candiria you will probably find some value in this, tho I am by no means making any kind of direct comparison. Getting back to the vocals - I usually find this variety grating after a short time. For some reason, tho, I didn't find that to be the case with this CD. In fact, I can't really picture any other vocal style that would better suit the actual music. I give this CD my highest rating and recommend it to any and all metal fans. Kinda surprising to hear a CD of this quality on an indie label. I could totally picture this on Relapse, Century Media, Nuclear Blast, etc. Heck, this might even be one of those CDs that eventually commands $[...] or more after the band is signed to a bigger label.

I hated this music and sent it back. Music is a loose word, I would call it noise and not very pleasant at that. I was confused by the group's name, Serapis, thinking it had some to do with Serapis Bey the Ascended Master. I was totally wrong. Don't waste your money unless you are a head banger or a crazy person.
