A wonderful CD of enjoyable classical guitar pieces,

This review is from: Serenade (Audio CD)
Martha Masters is a superb guitarist and I hope her repertoire grows so she can make more recordings of this caliber. The pieces are mostly a well-selected mix that fall midway between the tired old Spanish guitar "warhorses" and the tedious and eclectic pieces so often recorded by classical guitarists that show their musicianship and artistry but are hard to digest for listener (e.g., the Finnish Variations that resulted in the loss of a star). The Bach 998 lute pieces are superb. Ms. Master's renditions of the Schubert "Stanchen" and Mertz's "Carneval" are gems. Its a real shame that more of these non-Spanish classical works aren't included in the concert guitar repertoire. The audio quality of the recording is excellent.
