Mick McAuley & Winifred Horan, Serenade (***½) The accordionist and fiddle player from Celtic band Solas make an album for people who can't tell a jig from a reel. Whether playing in unison so tight they sound like a single instrument or multitracking velvet vocals, McCauley and Horan show themselves as purists for melody and little else. The gentle lilt of The Joyous Waltz and Little Mona Lisa adds charming rhythmic variety, and the duo tops things with a pair of gorgeous covers, Neil Young's After the Gold Rush and a version of Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Love worthy of the Everly Brothers. —Brian Mansfield, USA Today

I became enchanted with Winifred Horan when I bought her debut CD. This is more of the same fabulous Celtic style modern music and extremely enjoyable. I highly rate it for their individual talent as well as the music they chose. I LOVE it!

Great Album. I had never heard of this performer before. I saw a show on TV that used the waltz - A daisy in December. My wife loved the tune and after a bit of web surfing...I found it. What a fantastic album. One of my new favorites.

I have been a loyal fan of American-Irish supergroup Solas for some time now, but surprisingly, I have only just purchased a copy of 'Serenade', the first offering from band members Winnie Horan & Mick McCauley. I wish I had got hold of a copy of this album when it was first released, as I now know what I have been missing!!! A truly superior recording of two virtuoso musicians who are really enjoying what they are doing. You can actually hear their enjoyment!! If you need convincing, just take a listen yourself. If you love Irish music, then this album will blow you away, even though Winnie & Mick have given their own interpretation to the genre. This music thus has both an authentic Celtic sound, but is also bang up to date. A rare joy to be sure. I can't recommend it enough!!!
