Stephen Cosgrove's 'Serendipity' series teaches kids to deal with everyday situations in the world they live in. It provides them with positive solutions to difficult problems. all the charaters are whimsical and beautifully illustrated. There's lot more of these charming books. Collect all the Serendipity series books. Read them all. Start with this one. They're sure to entertain and teach children some valuable lessons they will remember.

A Classic!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Serendipity (Paperback)
I have about 38 "Serendipity Series" books from Cosgrove including about 15 printed in the 70's. I am now in my 20's and am adding to my collection. I understand that several of the books are out-of-print, and I am looking for those. I concur with others who want a complete set made available. I would also like to see a web site devoted to the books. I can't wait to read these to my children (when I have them).

The most beautiful lessons ever learned...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Serendipity (Paperback)
Serendipity books are the best written books in childrens literature. Just this morning, up in the attick, I found 13 of my favorites. Also, in the box I found my stuffed animal, you know, the one you keep forever. Along with a cup of tea and a rainy day, I read, and re-read every book I owned. The lessons in these books tought me to be a better person (Little mouse on the Prarie) and connect with my brave friend leo...I highly recommend these books for your children, and you.

Environmentalism and Self-knowledge.,
By Shantonu (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Serendipity (Paperback)
Obviously this book is awesome, so I won't add anymore to what's already been said. However, everyone seems to have missed the environmentalism that the book espouses. Really cool for kids, huh. Serendipity becomes a guardian of the ocean at the end. She finds her purpose, and it's to protect others in her environment. She finds meaning and purpose (symbolized by her name) in helping others! What a great message!

Thank you AMAZON.COM!,
By Johnna M Boudreau (Dayton, TN United States) - See all my reviews

All I can say about these books is WOW. I remember reading them when I was 5 and 6(yes believe it or not I could read that well at that age) and loving to fall asleep with them so I could dream of unicorns and other creatures. Reading has been my passion my whole life and I have read more books than anyone I know. These take the cake. They are wonderful for the imagination with their beautiful illustrations. They are also wonderful for the soul with their morals and characters that touch you and make you feel you are a part of their world for a little while. I had a very difficult time finding these books until I found Amazon.com. So I send out a resounding "Thank you amazon.com!!!" Buy these books....you will not be dissapointed and your children will thank you. Now and forever.

I believe this is the pilot book in the series, and is certainly one of the most classic. Serendipity is in all likelihood a magical elasmosaurus who, after meeting a very special dolphin and walrus, is assigned the most noble task of all...guarding the great seas. This wonderful book has gorgeous illustrations and I remember back as a child wishing I had it. Now, I finally have it thanks to Amazon (...) I read it and I don't regret that I did. Next to my all time favorites, those starring Squeakers the squirrel, this has become a fave, too. Actually, I think I love them all!

fantastic book!,

I loved Cosgrove's books as a little girl- I had most of them in the early 70's. Serendipity and his other books send powerful messages to children about the importance of individuality and to love, cherish and respect ourselves, each other, and our earth. I would really like to see a complete set availiable!

Old favorite,

Love the story in this book, however I have an old copy from the 80's and the illustations are much better in that older version. It seem's they added more text to a picture to save on paper in the new version, and the picture's are not the same. But if you never have seen the book before, it is worth reading; it is a great story. I personally was disapointed that they changed the illustrations. Enjoy!

Books with good lessons...,
By A Customer

I truly enjoyed the Serendipity series and would also love to see a complete collection. When I was a camp counselor I would read these stories to my campers every night at camp, beginning with Serendipity. Each of the campers could see themselves or someone they knew in the tales. I now enjoy them with my 5th grader who calls them "The books with the good lessons in them."

Almost Complete,

Hello to all Serendipity loversI have almost completed my collection of I believe at least 77 books from this series. I grew up reading and falling in love with all of the animals from Rhubarb to Fanny to Ming Ling. I encourage any reader (parent or child) to indulge themselves in the gorgeous illustrations and wonderful morals at the end of each story. Cosgrove and James have inspried me to start writing children's books on my own. I might be a famous author someday! |
