5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best
Im my profession as an airline pilot, I have purchased numerous pairs of sunglasses in my 25 years in the air, and these are simply the best I have purchased. I'm sure glass technology has changed a bit, but for the money, these are far superior to glasses I've paid over $400 for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Best, December 21, 2008

Im my profession as an airline pilot, I have purchased numerous pairs of sunglasses in my 25 years in the air, and these are simply the best I have purchased. I'm sure glass technology has changed a bit, but for the money, these are far superior to glasses I've paid over $400 for.
First, they are not polarized due to the polarization of the flight deck windows and displays in the flight deck. As you know, if you wear polarized glasses and look thorugh a polarized windshield, you get the "oily" smear of colors. Worse yet, if you wear polarized glasses in the flight deck, and rotate your head to the right or left, the polarization of both the glasses and the displays will cause them to black out at extreme angles. Obviously not a good scenario. If, on the other hand, you need the polarization for water activities, snow skiing, etc, then I would most definitely purchase the polarized version.
Next, these glasses seem to have x-ray capabilities in hazy, smoggy, overcast sky conditions. Also, when looking for other airplane traffic at altitude, these glasses allow me to be the first of the 3 pilots to actually spot the other airplane the controller has pointed out.
This is especially helpful as most of my flying is done in Europe, which is notorious for hazy sky conditions.
Lastly, they come with a hard sided case which protects your purchase and also fits handily in the flight bag.
Overall, a great pair of glasses at a good price. Yes, you can pay more, and I have. But I'm not sure you can get a technically better pair of sunglasses.

quality has dropped in the Serengeti line.

I have owned Serengeti sunglasses for years and have bought many pairs but lately have been noticing a lack of product quality.

The four pairs of Aviators I own have a insentient tendency to lose frame screws. I can't count the number of times I have tightened screws and a couple of weeks later have the screws fall out. Also the eye-pieces or rests that ride on your nose have lately been falling apart.

Right now I have a pair of Aviators that needs screws, a Georgetown and another pair that need nose pieces. The kicker is that these are fairly new glasses.

Bad to pay the price for what you would expect to be excellant sunglasses and have cheap four or five dollars sunglasses have better durability.

Unlike the large lens Aviator, which I bought last time, this medium lens model comes with the hinged earpieces on the frame. This frame is much more durable and worth the slightly smaller lens size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough to beat this product, July 16, 2010

This is about the fourth pair of Serengeti glasses I have bought. I still use the first pair even though they show their age and wear. If you are careful protecting the lenses from scratches (I have one of my four pair that was affected that way)they last a long time. I am a private pilot, and the glasses are exceptional at improving vision during very hazy or misty conditions. I have tested this on more than one occasion by lifting the glasses out of the way and then returning them to normal position. You can definitely see more clearly with them on. This can be quite important when conditions are not actual IMC but probably should be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ever lenses for sunglasses!, December 29, 2009

I have owned several pairs of Serengetis with their Drivers lenses over the years & I will never wear anything else if I have a choice. I am very fair-skinned & sensitive to sunlight all around; these are great lenses & worth every penny. The frames are well made also; they provide good coverage for my eyes from any angle. Everybody else can have their trendy "name-brand" shades; Serengeti Drivers are the real deal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Driving in a new light, April 2, 2009

The lenses on these glasses are amazing. It really makes driving a new experience.

Don't try and take these out of the car though. Light will leak in on all sides of the lenses and the nose rests will create some nasty glaring on the inside of the lens when you have the sun above your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for functional sunglasses, March 11, 2009
This review is from: Serengeti Medium Aviator Sunglasses (Eyewear)
I bought these glasses because I wanted something optically correct (meaning that things don't change shape and/or size when one views them through the lenses), something with a full coverage and a good history. These glasses fit the bill. I use them for flying almost 6x a week and they do a great job of cutting down on the brightest spots while increasing the dynamic range of the light emitted (so the contrast is higher while not being painfully bright). They are durable as well. My only negative is the style, which is unavoidable if you want minimum distortion (if you bend lenses it's much harder to produce a flat image). They are on the heavy side, but I consider that "durable" instead of a negative.

I love these glasses for driving and flying. They are too heavy to use for sports in my opinion, but the optics are second to none.

the sunglasses themselves are superb. i love the cool comfort from the sun while driving. they look cool too. How come the carrying case lining is loose and makes putting glasses in case a pain in the butt? i hope they ( Amazon) replace the case and if that is the CASE you will not be reading this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Estoy recion operado de los ojos, September 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The most enjoyable after a successful surgery with intraocular lens is able to enjoy some sun glasses, relaxing my eyes and are totally comfortable and will dramatically improve driving vision to both appreciate the scenery. The greens are generally more intense and all colors are sharper.
