It has been too long since I had a good quality pair of sunglasses. After buying this pair I remembered how much better I could see with well made, glass lenses. I have owned Serengetis in the past, and these are better than my last pair. They are a bit larger in diameter and look more fashionable as a result. The frames are well made with good hinges and springs to the temples that allow them to flex to fit your face. The are a bit heavier on the face than a pair of polycarbonate lenses, but you can tell the difference immediately. Colors are brighter and clearer. I also like the gradient feature while driving. Inside the car is clear and less shaded when looking down while they are darker at the middle and top of the lenses to protect even more from the bright sunlight.

I am very impressed with the performance of the Serengeti Velocity Drivers. I have worn nothing else for the last 10 years and have found no reason to switch.

I like the look and the lenses are clear and crisp. Not so sure that they get darker in full sun but they are darker at the top of the lens. I am undecided on the metal bar that connects the lenses above the nose piece. It looks a bit "old" and shouldn't be needed. I didn't see it in the photos when I made the purchase. Good quality driving glasses, for a price.

This is my first pair of Serenget's and I wish I had bought them sooner! I was a RayBan fan until they got rid of the brown non-polarized sunglasses. I fly for a living and these are the best sunglasses I've ever had! They give you great protection all while giving you a clear and crisp view of the glass instruments. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!

Great sunglases. THese are gradient sunglass rather than polorized. They still have wonderful clarity and your eyes relax the minuet you put hem on. I think the gradient feature is the best though as driving in and out of shadows and sun is so much easier without you even noticing it. They are comfortable, but they are not made for rough use - at least not this particulare modle. My true aviator ones were stronger (at least lookg and feeling).
Now, as to price. The ones that acutally shipped to me came from Optitech with 5% off coupon, and free shipping. So I went to their site out of curiosity. Free shipping isn't a big deal as they do it for everything. And 5% is nothing, but the glasses were almost $25.00 cheaper. Amazon is good, but sometimes they don't find the best deal. Oh well, live and learn. Hope Optitech is still selling them for less when you buy a pair.

Exactly as I expected. The fit, finish, and lens quality sets the standard. As an airline pilot, the non-polarized gradient lens allows clear visibility inside and excellent shading.

I bought the Velocity Titanium gradient back in Feb 2002 right after my lasik surgery. Up to now, there is just one small barely 0.5cm hairline scratch on the back of the lens. Otherwise, the front and back of the lenses are immaculate despite having dropped it a few times on hard flooring or on a table. That said, one word sums up when you're wearing it--flawless. The gradient lens took a bit of getting used to. I used to feel a bit nauseated when the tint changed from dark to light as I moved my head up or down. It didn't take long to get accustomed to though.
The frames are still in good condition with the same tension as before as far as i recall. The coating on the outside are still good except for a few nicks on the corners from having dropped it on hard pavement probably. Inside of the temples have mostly worn off but it appears it's only reached the base coating and no metal is exposed as far as I can see. Overall, this style I think would be too heavy for sports as they slide down a bit when you're perspiring especially if looking down. I'm actually looking around for a new pair but with a different tint this time from the current brownish gradient that I have. My next purchase will likely have a polarized photochromatic lens but with a mirrorized finish which I can't find in such combination....The reason for polarized is that the vehicle I drive now has beige-colored dashboard which makes it hard to see through the windshield due to the reflection. So hopefully the polarized will eliminate or mitigate the problem. I also want photochromatic lens for cloudy days or when the sun's a bit low on the horizon already.... The lens, as I understand it, would reduce glare while not blocking too much light around me. Why a 4star and not 5star? I'm a tough grader so since there are blemishes mentioned above, I just couldn't give it a "5" but overall I'm still quite happy with the purchase and it has definitely served me well many years. I'll likely keep it even after I get polarized as a spare for times when I don't want polarized lenses such as when doing photography. So, if you don't want photochromatic and/or polarized lenses for any reason, I'd definitely recommend this pair for non-sports activities such as driving(provided you dont' have the same problem I have with the dashboard reflection) or just lounging around. |
