4.0 out of 5 stars melodic power metal, November 19, 2007
This review is from: Serenity (Audio CD)
If you like rockers Europe, Running Wild, Helloween even 'hairmetal', then this CD might appeal to fans.
Compared to average quality CDs emerging these days, Kotipelto is a decent effort- the first 3 tracks are excellent, then 3 good tracks, 1 ballad, and the last 3 songs are again good.
The only thing that excels is his voice- and with powerful and skillful guitarists, he can make the ultimate power metal album, I reckon.

Definitely, the third solo album from Timo Kotipelto shows that his composition has improved, achieving move beyond the monotony in which fell on some songs from his two previous albums.

Stratovarius's voice shines with his ballad and songs like "Once upon a time", "Sleep Well" and "Mr. Know-it-all". This special edition is notable for its beautiful booklet and packaging. It's expensive, but highly recommended!

Timo Kotipelto is one of the greatest vocalists of our time. If you are a fan of Stratovarius you will enjoy this CD. In truth I feel Waiting for the Dawn and Serenity are superior to most Stratovarius albums. With the exception of one ballad, all the songs are great, catchy tunes. A lot of quality in this one, I highly recommend it.

I love this album. It's very well produced from beginning to end and is one of those CDs that doesn't get old after hearing it a million times. Just a FYI, You can hear longer samples of the songs and see a music video the Kotipelto website. If your a fan of Stratovarius then check this out. If your not a fan of Stratovarius then there is something wrong with you. You won't be disapointed with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Third in line, April 25, 2009

Kotipeltos third album of hard rock - given gothic, trad and power metal twinges due to Timos high pitched vocals and his association with Stratovarius - is another good but not brilliant entry into this most heavily populated of metal sub genres. There are a range of rockers here including my personal fave Sleep Well which rides a nice melody and there are also tunes with nice vocal hooks like Dreams And Reality. For fans of slower ballad style stuff the seventh number, After The Burn, is perhaps the choice cut.

To compare this with the first two Kotipelto albums, it's vastly better than the first which had too much of that 'hollow high end' sound to be truly enjoyableand the feel of the tunes are mor mid range and more connective. Production by Kotipelto himself and guitarist Tuomas Wainola is clean and clear without being too prissy and suits the albums mood. And it should be noted that Wainola is the only person other than Kotipelto to get a writing credit it should be noted. Other band members are Janne Wirman on keys, Lauri Porra on bass and drums courtesy of Mirka Rantonen.

Stratovarius and Kotipelto fans can buy with confidence and while it's not brilliant this is the best of the three Kotipelto albums thus far in terms of feel and production.
