Serenity Song catches us up with D. D. Jackson's music and life in the form of a series of compositions that celebrate and examine his personal world. Marital joy is expressed, but anyone who believes that great art only comes out of suffering will be pleased to discover that it can come out of contentment and "serenity" also. As usual, his writing sets him apart from most of his contemporaries. In my view, he and David Murray are the great composers of time - with technical skills to match. The moods and rhythms are varied, with sudden turns and surprises that are both logical and adventurous, accessible yet on the edge, all at the same time. Do yourself a favor, and check out samples on his website, [...]. You'll be hooked, and better off for it.
