I paid $85 at the bike dealer for this light. By the time I got around to using it, it was past its warranty. It is very unreliable; sometimes it works fine, but often it won't come on at all, or quits randomly. You can't take it apart to work on it, so I fiddled with the wire and switch to see if one of those was at fault. I finally figured out that it was sensitive to temperature. From 45-55 it's intermittent; below 45 it won't work at all. Not worth it at any price, because you depend on it.

My Serfas headlamp looks just like this except it also has a strap that goes over the top of your head; pretty sure it is the same thing. I got it for about $30 at a bike shop 6 years ago, and I am still happy with it.

It has a bright, focused beam, adequately bright enough for most normal-paced biking at night. However, when I am biking downhill faster than I can pedal with no streetlights, it is only barely adequate to show road obstacles just in time.

I use alkaline 1.5V AA's; it's not bright enough with rechargeable 1.25V batteries. Battery life is fine.

I can only remember one time when it started failing on me due to extreme cold, and I've used it a lot. It was definitely below freezing, probably 5 degF or so. I assume it's because batteries work poorly when they're super cold. It has always worked fine above freezing temps, and I've dropped it a lot.

I used to be bad at getting it to stay on my helmet, but once I got my technique down, it stays put just fine. I may soon get a new helmet with less of the silly 'aero' point on the back, so it may become harder to keep the headlamp on top. We'll see.
