Book Description

Sergio Aragones Groo
What's a guy who barely knows how to read doing with his own library? Even he couldn't resist the four classic (i.e., reprint) Groo tales collected in this handsome volume, including the acclaimed tale of "Rufferto Reverie" -- the grand fantasy of Groo's constant canine. As usual, the Eisner-winning duo of Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier make a buck (but not much more) recycling old stories for your pleasure.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Sergio Aragones has enjoyed a long, ink-stained life making people all over the world laugh at his silly-and often MAD-antics. Few entertainers in the world share Aragonés' far-reaching appeal, and his success is a result of not only his easily recognizable talent for finding side-splitting humor in everyday settings; it also has a lot to do with his chosen medium-cartooning. After his parents emigrated from Spain to Mexico in the early 1940s, Aragonés became an avid artist, sketching, drawing, and lampooning his way through Catholic school and through four years of architectural studies at the University of Mexico. He even experimented with short stints studying pantomime under the legendary Alexandro Jodorowsky, and working as a clown in an aquatic ballet show. Still, the young artist felt he was destined for greater things, and set off for New York in 1962 with twenty dollars in his pocket and his portfolio at his side. With that portfolio, Aragonés wooed the editors of MAD Magazine and launched himself headlong into cartoon history. Sergio Aragonés has been published in every issue of MAD Magazine since his work first appeared on its pages, and in the thirty-plus years since, he's provided animation for television shows including Laugh-In (he acted, too!), and TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes, and he's been recognized with countless national and international awards thanking him for his contributions to the arts. Oh, and he's done some comics, too, such as Groo, Louder Than Words, and Boogeyman (there's more, of course) for Dark Horse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tales of Groo the most devestating bumbler ever, November 2, 2002
This review is from: Sergio Aragones' Groo: Library (Paperback)
Groo Library

Groo gets involved in his usual mayhem and manages to displace his swords several times - Ruferto exercises in a little hero worship and fantasy, and like a faithful dog that's smarter than his master he manages to haul Groo out of the pit's he digs for himself. Groo get's involved in a scheme to "liberate" the most valuable sapphire in the world; the Minstrel, Arcadio the warrior, Arba and Dakarba, sister Grooella, the Sage and more fools who've never learned to keep away from Groo get involved in machinations. Groo attempts more gainful employment and serving as a village protector he manages to bring the village to destitution. The very last page introduces none other than Chakal - the warrior gal Groo has heart-eyes for!

Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Not though for long-term pristine collectors though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Graphic SF Reader, September 2, 2007
This review is from: Sergio Aragones' Groo: Library (Paperback)
Groo has a few problems with speaking, let alone having the skills to enable reading comprehension. A library? You jest. More stories here, including one where Rufferto is daydreaming, and you see how he would like things to be.

Of course, they aren't, and he has to get Groo out of trouble yet again. All the usual suspects are here, the Sage, Arcadio, etc.

Groo is such a "Goofy" type character along with his side kick dog makes for hilarious stories. Recommend this purely entertainment story line for Jr. High level audience.
