5.0 out of 5 stars terrific police procedural romance, July 7, 2007
This review is from: A Serial Affair (Silhouette Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
Heeding family and work demands, FBI violent crimes expert Marina Santos ended her relationship with Chicago police department Lieutenant Reed Crawford. He never understood why and for that matter looking back she does not know either.

When Elliot Washington became the latest mutilated young castrated male victim of a sadistic serial killer, Chicago Mayor Dansinger demands resolution as his daughter was a friend of the deceased. A task force is formed with Reed and Marina on it. Their attraction could cause an inferno to match the infamous Chicago Fire, but both ignore their feelings as the case comes first. An expert at patterns, Marina begins to tie together the connection between the dead; each one seems to have voluntarily stepped into danger and she believes deserved punishment for a crime they committed. Still as they fall in love a second time, they must stop a killer before they pursue their feelings.

This is a terrific police procedural romance in which author Natalie Dunbar cleverly intertwines a serial killer investigation with a second chance at love subplot that emphasizes the importance of family. The story line is action-packed with a fabulous final twist that will stun the audience, but belongs to the lead couple who struggle to balance the case, their families, and love.

In A Serial Affair by Natalie Dunbar, while up and coming FBI agent Marina Santos is preparing for work, an interesting news brief of a killing catches her attention. Reaching into her memory, she realizes there is a similarity to a killing that occurred a few months ago. Wondering if anyone has noticed the same thing, Marina heads to work. Upon arriving, her suspicions are confirmed when her boss assigns her to a task force with someone on the Chicago Police Department to find the serial killer. While at the Chicago Police Department, Marina finds out her task force partner is Officer Lieutenant Reed Crawford. Although Marina and Reed have a past romantic history, Marina has confidence she can get the job done by piecing together clues, and making connections in order to find the killer before they strike again.

A Serial Affair by Natalie Dunbar takes readers along for a captivating ride to try and find a serial killer. The suspenseful elements of this story were magnificently written. Natalie skillfully captures the readers' attention as the story moves forward. The only criticism was even though, this was a romantic suspense, it was heavy on the suspense but not the romance. I found myself wanting more passion from Marina and Reed. Yes, the two were trying to find a serial killer but the attraction they held for one another was there but it was not as strong as it could have been. The race to find the serial killer is at the core of this story and definitely something that I recommend for readers to pick up and sink their teeth into.

A Serial Affair has an awesome storyline that is witty, suspensful, and action packed. With every turn of the page, I became more engrossed in the story. Natalie Dunbar did a great job and this novel was written very well. There was an even balance of passion and danger. She gave away no clues and you had to finish out the story in order to figure who was the mystery killer . I thought this was a great read and would recommend this to those who loves romance with a little suspense!
